I've got a Seabright cockerel if anyone is interested; around 6 weeks old; Townline hatchery chick. By chance, does anyone who has had the breed know their general crowing habits?

I had a light brahma rooster this winter and he did just fine; I don't use heat or lights either. My hens really wouldn't leave his feet alone though, he was constantly getting pecked, poor guy was too docile for his own good.

Oh, that's neat! I moved here three years ago, can't say I love it, but my house was cheap. I wish I could say the same about the taxes and water bill lol. Aw, that's too bad, I hate to send such nice, expensive ducks to freezer camp Good luck with your babies!

Thanks for the reply! Their ages range from 10 months to 2 years old. I have a heated waterer so they "should" have plenty. I don't provide supplementary lighting but I didn't last winter and got almost a dozen/day. Everybody molted before winter so I don't think that's the problem. I...

I haven't been on in months, school has kept me way too busy lol. I was just wondering if anyone else's flock has completely stopped laying? I know its cold but I haven't gotten an egg in 2 weeks and before that it was 3-6/week. I've only had chickens for two years so I was wondering if this...

I agree, my cat is 16 and when she goes, that's it for cats in my household. No more litter boxes! We have too many feral cats here to even consider an outdoor cat.

I have 1 black australorp and 4 buff orpington cockerels available if anyone wants them. They are about 8 weeks old, starting to crow and fight already; I don't have the space to grow out that many cockerels for the dinner table. I'm in the Durand/Flint area. If not my, dogs will enjoy a...

I wish I could make it to Chickenstock this year but I have an internship working in poultry research with strict biosecurity protocols so I can't have any contact with birds outside of work :( Awesome opportunity but I miss my birds and other chicken enthusiasts!

Looks like I've got my first broody hen. Could she have gone broody when I brought day old chicks home 2 weeks ago? Of course not Is it too late to put them under her?

I posted this in the breed guess section but was hoping you guys may be able to help me too. I got these chicks from a friend's extras not knowing what they are. They're almost 3 weeks old and all I can come up with is BSL since the hatchery supposedly doesn't carry giants or australorps. The...

So the better question is who hasn't been locked in the coop or run because I know I'm guilty - more than once. I'm just glad the first time was before we put the netting over the run because at least I only had to climb the 6' stockade fence to get out.

Have you considered the vinyl plank? Thats what I'm saving up for. Looks like quality hardwood with the durability of vinyl. I have a 100+ year old house with uneven floors so at $2/sqft its much cheaper than my alternatives since carpet is NOT welcome in my house. As for being a crazy...

I also think mystery chick looks like a RIR. The black chicks don't look like barred rocks from the pics but I'm no expert.

I guess I should've clarified my statement a little bit lol. The BR can be mean and bossy to other chickens in the flock, they're the ones that always start stuff with the other girls. They've always been good to us humans

I have both barred rocks and jersey giants and like both. The BR can be mean and bossy or nice and friendly, the JG I have tend to be on the shy, laid back side. If I had to choose, I'd get JG before BR. I haven't ever seen maran chicks at TSC. Here's a pic of my barred rocks and...
