Does anyone incubate? First timer here and I've fired mine up in a rush and set eggs yesterday morning because I lost one of my girls and didn't want to waste her eggs. Was planning to test mate her in March/April with my other rooster who was moved in with them mid December.
Not the most ideal...
Sorry to hear about Randy's passing. Only had a couple of interactions with him here. He seemed like a beloved member here so condolences to all family and friends of his.
That helps, thank you. I was kinda thinking late March early April being Southern Mi. but maybe that's pushing too early with our weather changes. Specially if we have a hard winter like they are threatening. Just trying to plan out ahead so I can swap my Rooster's out and get a couple breeder...
A couple questions for those hatching in the spring..
If your incubating when do you set up your hatch? Overnight lows are steady at 40, 50, 60 degrees? I've got a brooder I can set up in the house but I would rather use the brooder I built in the barn/garage. I have heat lamps and brooder plate...
What movie are you seeing?
All our birds went in quite a bit earlier than usual. Even the ducks and the grow outs who normally stay out til almost dark. I wasn't complaining... I was ready to call it a day.
Going thru this for the past few weeks. My Isa Brown "lady" spent a few nights in the nest box. Then a BCM hen "Joannie" started sleeping in the nest box. (2 separate flocks but kinda struck me funny that both are head hens from each flock)
But I agree, I have to clean them first thing but it's...
Late checking in.. @Dreamzchaser so sorry about your hen. It's always hard when you spend so much time with them and then have to let them go.
@RaZ .... there are 2 standards for Marans. English is clean legged and French is feathered. It's hit or miss with hatcheries, but the APA only...
Hey everyone... :frow
I've got 3 Olive Egger cockerels I'm looking to re home in the Lansing area, can post or pm pics for those interested. BCM x EE 18 wks old.
I would come home with more birds. I have a problem and need to find a "chicken addicts anonymous" meeting.
I'm already thinking about adding more birds in the spring.
The struggle is real.
