Yes I just took some today.
Red streaking on her hackles
Clear rounded hackle feathers
saddle feathers
I'm sticking with POL pullet. I felt her pelvic bones because I use that to gauge who's going to start laying soon, and they were wide and the cartilage pliable like a...
Ok I'm going to make a final guess and say it's a girl. I just looked at the hackle feathers and although the edges are clear, they are round. Also, my rooster just did his little courting dance to her...so I'm going to say girl.
My goodness! She's been the hardest one for me to gender.
Here are some new pictures of the thing. I really have no idea you guys...and it's driving me nuts. The tail looks like a roo, but it's lacking the saddle feathers at almost 6 months old.
I'm leaning more towards rooster...
Haha that's for sure. I really don't like the look of her, but I raised her and she's not hurting anything so I let her hang around as the awkward ugly stepsister. Hahaha
And that little silkie is Piper! She is SO sweet and calm. I just had to trim her fluff again today because she was having...
This one is a true head scratcher, but I'm going back to pullet on this one with a very manly tail. At almost 6 months old there are no saddle or hackle feathers, but the two longest tail feathers have a curve at the end like a rooster's.
I guess we'll see if it lays or not! But it's not...
I'm out of town until the weekend and forgot to snap some new pics though. It looks exactly the same as last week except that the feathers at the base of its neck are more prominent (and there are more of them) and the tail feathers are just a bit longer. There are hints of red all over its...
So it's been another week and I'm really thinking rooster now. Now it has long feathers on its neck that kind of curl towards its chest that are thinner than normal feathers. I looked at all of my hens and none of them have those feathers...but my roo does. No saddle or sickle feathers though...
Yep I figured, but considering some of my eggs were also from cochins (the calico frizzles I was supposed to hatch) I couldn't tell.
Now the other chick was a smooth-feathered sizzle for sure, and the seller wasn't who I was worried about. The hatcher on the other hand...well...let's just say...
If it's a black sex-link that makes me REALLY cranky because it means the lady who hatched my eggs either killed the other one or swapped out my VERY EXPENSIVE chick for this one........
The fact that it's probably a female is ok though. Not something I wanted in my banty coop...but...whatever.
Oh it's definitely a mixed breed. It came from eggs that were supposed to be frizzles and sizzles...but I think something might've jumped the fence. Either that or the lady who hatched my eggs really ripped me off...
Any ideas on gender? It really is confusing. No crowing behavior and no...
This bird is a weirdo. It was supposed to be a bantam, but is way too big. It supposedly hatched from one of the bantam eggs I hatched though.
Either way, I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl. It hatched sporting a comb and wattles, so I always thought boy. But it hasn't really reddened and...
