    Growing fodder for chickens

Humidity shouldn't be a problem, it's pretty dry here. Which is confusing.

Ohhh, I was thinking your trays were staggered, so you would get four days out of them. But you started them all at the same time this time around. I see. Heehee, it will be a feast! You can probably stretch the growing time to feed out for two or three days (of course if mold doesn't come back).

Oh interesting! So you are growing in 24 hour light?

Quote: Yes, keep us updated if you can! I really like your setup, way to go! I am going to scale mine back because tending to six/seven trays is a little too much for me. I might even cut down to two, that should still make for a nice supplement for my ducks twice weekly. If I can get the...

    Growing fodder for chickens

I harvested my first fodder biscuit (this is my third time starting from scratch). Just like last time, it looked really healthy, with white thick roots, and no fuzziness. And it smelled super fresh. Then I started pulling it apart and really inspecting it. Still there is mold hiding throughout...

Thank you so much for all the details Don. I presoak seeds for 8-12 hours in a mild bleach solution (1/2 tsp. bleach to 6 cups water). I will incorporate the H2O2 into my rinsing. Good to know 2 rinses per day is sufficient and others are getting by with this. Room stays between 60 and 75...

    Growing fodder for chickens

(Sorry for the long post, just hoping someone will be able to help me make sense of things.) MOLD, errgh! Does anyone know what sort of impact fluorescent grow lights could have on mold growth? I made 6 trays of fodder a few weeks ago. Two were wheat berries from Whole Foods, the other...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I did find earlier today that wheat (and barley) are not yet genetically engineered in the U.S. Although some of Monsanto's genetically engineered test wheat has sprouted up "randomly" in Oregon and recently Montana. Thank you for sharing your resource...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Hopefully all the experienced fodderers can help... I'm getting started with fodder. I'll be using wheat. Has anyone had trouble sprouting non-organic wheat (vs. organically grown wheat)? I'm worried about if my wheat is genetically engineered, it might carry the suicide gene or something...
