    Growing fodder for chickens

Sometimes you have to give them a couple of days to get used to it and then they devour it!

    See if it rinses off.

    Growing fodder for chickens

I had wondered whether the chicks would like deer plot fodder. Now is the time to buy it also, since it is on clearance everywhere. I might have to plant some around the coops also if it goes over well.

Anyone here tried buckwheat? I had some seed left and threw it into my wheat, BOSS, oats mixture this time just for an added variation. Just wondering how well it sprouts.

Do you have a Church of Latter Day Saints near you? Most of their members would know of a source for bulk whole wheat because they are required to keep a year's worth of food on hand if possible.

    Growing fodder for chickens

Any local feed/farm supply should carry seed wheat. I wouldn't eat the sprouts myself, but it will work great for feeding your animals as long as it isn't treated with something.

Just leave it in there until you start to see cloudy swirls in it. That is the "mother" developing. Since it only takes a little bit, I would buy a bottle of the "mother" and a gallon of the regular at the same time. Put a 1/2 cup in the regular and by the time you use the "mother" vinegar...

If you need some immediately you can "dope" some already processed ACV with the mother ACV and put it in a dark place with the cap off covered by a paper towel and have some mother ACV in a couple of weeks. That way you can keep it going after the first time and never have to buy it again.

    Growing fodder for chickens

You might check your local farmer's coop. Ours sells it bulk by the pound. They carry a wide variety of bulk seed that can be purchased that way. I understand about the animals eating it like crazy. Unfortunately, the army worms got all I planted this fall. It and the winter wheat was...

    Growing fodder for chickens

I was talking more about the amount of land that could be planted with 50 lbs of clover. I'm sure it wouldn't make much in the way of fodder due to the seeds being so small.

    Growing fodder for chickens

50 lbs of clover seed would be an unbelievable amount. You are talking acres and acres.

    Growing fodder for chickens

I would try your local farmer's coop. They normally have bulk grain/seed. I purchased 50 lbs. bags of wheat and whole oats.

    Growing fodder for chickens

You might check your local feed store or farmer's coop. Ours carries winter wheat seed at this time of the year as well as other types of bulk seed. I paid $14 for 50 lbs of winter wheat for planting. I haven't used hardly any of it because I didn't need that much, but it was cheaper than...
