Raccoons are the worst! I had my own flock nearly destroyed by raccoons before I built fort Knox. Lucky survivors to be able to come live with you! Your friends chickens might be carriers but not showing any symptoms. The stress of moving to a new home and new flock could bring out hidden...

I have an awesome Rhodebar broody. She is raising 4 pullets and 1 cockerel. She hatched some and took on 3 more after I moved the eggs to the incubator. The chicks are Rhodebar also. So lovely to watch a nice mommy hen cluck over her chicks. No worries for me over heat lamps and power outages.

I have several standard cream legbar pullets available, one has gold hackles.though and shouldn't be used for breeding. I also have 2 white sport cockerels that my daughter insisted we keep but I would be happy to part with. I have been selling hatching eggs and fertility is very good. Please...

I have a nearly 30 y.o. Thoroughbred who is still very spunky. I retired him this last summer after he cut his leg and he had to be confined for several months. My 4 year old newly trained paint that aint is already a much calmer riding horse than my old guy.

I fed my gang scratch n peck for a couple of years. It is a combo of whole grains and fine powders. I found that my clucks were picking out the parts that they liked and spreading the rest around. I was shoveling the fine stuff into the compost pile. Some people mix the powder with yogurt...

I've had them for 3 years. Getting them at first was a challenge and then getting correct color was too. Now that I have an all cream flock it should be smoother. The chickens are delightful. Great personalities and easy to keep. I've had a few aggressive roosters that got culled. The...

Cream Legbars typically start to lay at 22-24 weeks. My pullets were laying in November and then stopped with the cold weather. My other blue egg laying hens EE's also stopped laying in the winter with or without lights. I am waiting for the girls to start laying again. I have a waitlist for...

I have filled up all the waters. An extra 6 buckets of drinking water for the horses and 2 large water founts in each coop. I just filled 3 jugs of drinking water for us. Our well is a shared well on the neighbors property. Hoping that they might have a generator but haven't had that...

I haven't been on BYC for a while. I have a small flock of Cream Legbar that I have been breeding for correct color. I made a lot of progress last year and hope to have hatching eggs available starting early spring. Please PM me when you are ready. I will hopefully be able to help you out.

I suspect that Lola had help. You have eggs of more than one color. Sneaky!

That looks like a hen tail to me. The boy tails are not so even, Then they get the long tail feathers. She does have a huge comb. I can see why you might be suspicious. Doe the lighter hen have a rose comb?

I took a much simpler route. I am going on vacation in a weeks and my Rhodebar had been broody for several weeks. I decided to try moving her from the nest to the perch at night. Two nights I moved her after dark and done. She is not broody anymore! Some times that's all it takes.

My Chickens are not afraid of my dog but terrified of any others that they don't know. She may not have lied in that respect. Can you keep the rooster contained in a way that he can see your dog, but not injure himself while he gets used to your dog?

I built an easy ladder like this. I used a pallet, removed most of the boards and nailed on 2x2's for perches. My younger birds love it as well. The older birds have another perch that they use. As they move up in rank, they move to the older bird perch.

Was doing a little research on X-Cel...  It gives me pause when all the online articles about them have to do with being sued by the FDA for selling "adulterated" and mis-labeled feed.   This was in regard to mad-cow disease and cow feed, but still.... [/quote Xcel feed is sold at drive through...
