He will be out soon! I hope you didn't say this and forgive if you did, but which shelter did you go to? We got our cat from the Tacoma humane society last October. The cat area was pretty nice! I didn't end up looking at the dog area, since we don't need a third dog!
Hi neighbor!!! I'm...
I figure even a 5-6 lb bird is better than a store bird .... I just found out last night that a family I babysit for has BR's and BO's and sex links and I don't remember what else she said. I'm hoping I can talk her into selling me some kiddos, or she can tell me where she gets hers from. It's...
So it's looking like whatever I can find is what I'll get and will just hope they are broody  I want the larger breeds though, so when they stop being productive they can go to the freezer .......... Does anybody raise meat birds, or are they all used for eggs? Don't want to bum people out...
Thanks again Trav! The more I read/hear/learn about the BR's and BO's, the more I'm liking them. I know since they're larger they will need a larger coop, but we're going to do either a garden shed kit, or get the stuff separately, so I can stand up in the coop, to clean it out and do whatever I...
Delta, we don't have our coop built (or supplies bought) yet. Just trying to get my feelers out. Once we're ready I'll pm you to see if they're still available. :)
Ok, that's what I figured, just wanted to make sure I won't be doing future kiddos a dis-service.
Does anybody sell Orpington, Barred Rock, or Australorp chicks around here? Does anybody have experience with any of these three being more broody? (should this be going in a different forum?)
So (not sure why this just now came to me) once I am ready to get my chicks (won't be for a few months still) would it be better to get a hen to hang out with them and show them what to do, or would there be a chance of her trying to peck the babies?
Hope that makes sense!
I bet the birds are loving their new digs now that they aren't shut out. It looks great!
Not creative (don't even have a coop yet!) But I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions! Can't wait! :)
This is why I want to do the chickens! One dog loves anything food I give him (except the halibut .... First time he wouldn't eat it ..... Was hilarious! He pulled his lips up really high and tried rolling in the halibut piece I gave him ) the other dog is going to take more convincing ...
That's a nice setup Trav!
Once we figure out if we're going to do a garden shed kit, or make our own design, we will be figuring out how to make the broody area ..... Can you have two broody hens together, or will they peck each other? I thought I had done enough reading, but the further into...
