I incubate Bantams and large fowl together. I keep the temp at 99.5 and humidity at 45% for the first 18 days then 65% days 18-21. I always have 95-100% hatch rates even with shipped eggs. I've tried the dry - incubating method but the forced-air fan dried the air inside the 'bator too much and...
First of all: !! I am constantly hatching out silkies (can't sell the eggs to eat, they're too small, lol!) but I'm no where near Portland or Battle Ground. I have several chicks that have recently hatched, more that are going to hatch soon, and some juveniles I'm growing out. Check out my...
I had the same thoughts about the government BUT as I ship eggs and birds all over the country on a weekly basis I needed to get certified to do so legally. If I didn't ship I likely wouldn't have bothered with it.
Here's another link that you might find helpful...
Yes I believe so. I have been meaning to ask them if I were to purchase a bird from a non NPIP certified breeder if I could have it tested by the state or if that would DQ me.
I think, in the case of less than 30 birds or birds under a certain age, they'll just test all the ones who are old enough. I want to say it's like 3 months or older. Also, the state vet only charged me $45 lol. He told me why but I honestly can't remember. I'm actually not sure if it's a...
Hey Amberjem! I've been through the NPIP process and it's pretty easy. (the hardest part was getting ahold of the state inspector to schedule a time to come out).
First off, here in this state initial AI testing is a mandatory part of the NPIP certification process. After the initial test you...
Ooooh how I wish you lived closer! I would love the male Welsummer chick! We had one last year that we we raised but he was really mean so he's no longer around lol. They are stunning when they grow up! We even have 3 Welsummer hens he could have all to himself. :)
Right now I'm only selling Mottled / Spangled Orpington eggs and chicks. My others are on a hiatus lol. I haven't been able to keep up with orders. Right now I have a waiting list until the middle of January.
I'm bringing in about $50 per dozen and have been sending out orders every week for the last couple months. I just sent a shipment of chicks to Massachusetts that arrived healthy but I won't ship any more chicks until spring. My problem is I go though a LOT of feed lol.
I charge $4/dozen (for eating eggs- not hatching eggs!) and always sell out. Unfortunately, as you said, feed prices have increased though which is a bummer. I tried fermenting but they ate that faster than regular crumbles. :( I want to find a way to ferment without having to spend a ton of $$...
Lol I've been hatching orpingtons all winter and selling them on rare breed auctions. I have also been hatching silkies and selling them all winter locally throughout the state. :)
I love Papa's Poultry! He has some great birds. :) George is a great name for your Jubilee!! I had a breeding pair of LF chocolate Orpingtons but a coyote got them both. :( Someday I'll replace them.
