    Is this a purebred Ameraucana or a hatchery bird? If it's from a hatchery (I note you spell the name with an "i" which is how the hatcheries spell the name) it is unlikely to be a purebred Ameraucana. Ameraucanas seem to be a bit late to mature. I don't know about the hatchery birds, which...

    This afternoon I reached under a pullet--she'd been in the box for hours--with my dirty hands and felt something wet. A minute later the pullet produced an egg. Did I touch the egg? Did I introduce bacteria into her reproductive tract? I'm really annoyed with myself for not being more careful.

    Your chicken math is a little off. What month were they hatched in??? Either they were hatched in March or they aren't 22 weeks yet. Mine hatched March 15 and they are 22 weeks. I got my first egg from a Polish on her 22nd week birthday.
