Update: Thanks to the BYC's wonderful GrammyPam, I have 8 beautiful little Black Copper Maran chicks. They are doing great, and just as cute as can be. I'm attaching a couple pics for those who are interested.
Pam, thanks again - It was great meeting you and checking out your coop and run...
In my experience, Wyandottes and Buff Orpingtons do great job of thriving through the winters. Barred Rocks also do well. They handle the cold weather and still produce eggs steadily.
I am excited that I am getting some Black Copper Maran chicks soon.
I would also like to get some Gold Laced...
Hi, bjorkchickens - Welcome!!
I am in the Forest Lake/Scandia area. I have a Red Star hen that is broody, but she seems to be intermittent that way. I wonder if the hen would be broody after switching environments and being low girl in the pecking order? We can talk about it if you'd...
Hi, Haazegirl. I see you are in Blue Earth - What a cool area. We have been going to a bluegrass festival every summer at the Fairgrounds in Garden City , just north of you. Love the area.
I have a friend in Rochester, who might know about duck eggs in your area. I'll check with him and...

I came across this ad. It was posted over a month ago but they might still have some. Good luck.

Hi, Lilly - I saw that when they first posted on the BYC - I sent them a message, but...
Thanks, Pam! I will probably get in touch with you in the spring, or you could let me know when you have the BCM eggs available. I would prefer getting them from you hatched, because I don't have an incubator (yet).
I know the Oronoco area - I went to college with a friend from Zumbrota...
Sounds good - I'll do the same.
I have some new hens I picked up in August at Anoka Ramsey Farm & Garden. They certainly weren't my first choices, but I did want to add to my flock before winter. They should start laying soon - I hope. I'm down to about 6-7 eggs per day among 16 chickens.
maxxsmommy - I have been looking for Black Copper Marans as well (pullets only). I didn't find any this summer that were not REALLY expensive. I'm not sure I'd want to integrate them with my flock now that it's getting colder, I'll probably wait until spring & the warmth returns again.
But...
Thanks for posting the cute pics, destiny.
I was so bummed when I got to the Poultry Barn and it was closed for judging. When I came back later, it was so crowded, that it wasn't as enjoyable looking around at all the breeds. But there were some gorgeous chickens there. I didn't see as many...

We entered this year. Bringing Seramas in frizzled and smooth, modern bantams, brahma bantams, a sumatra and egyptian geese. A lot of my birds decided to start molting so the timing couldn't be any worse. But maybe I'll see you there. We'll be there the 31st for the first...
Thanks, Chickenaddict! You're right - I can find every kind of rooster I would ever want, most for free and close in my area. But pullets & hens are a different deal this year- Wonder why that is?
I'm going to the State Fair next week - I suppose I'll change my mind on what breed I want...
Hi, and Happy Wednesday.
I'm looking for some teenage pullets (around 4 months or so). Some to integrate with my existing aging flock.
I'm looking for Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes, or Buff Orpingtons.
My ideal is to get a couple of Black Copper Marans.
Anyone know of any of these available...
WiseChicks - Do you work in the Army Corps of engineers building? Don't need to respond if you don't want to.
Yes, my GL Wyandotte hens should be of breeding age soon. Maybe we could work something out? BLRWs are on my wish list! You can PM me if you want to discuss.
I play both acoustic...
Sorry to hear that, Katie.
My manager lives in Hudson as well. Fortunately, we're both working from home this week.
Best of luck on the commute home today.
Hi, Wisechicks. Up until last week, I worked downtown St. Paul, too - The building just to the south on the Galtier Plaza.
How was your commute in today?
Hi, Shafer BYC'ers! I live just south of you all. South Lindstrom, just west of Scandia, east of Forest Lake.
Near Big Marine Lake, if you know where that is.
