this was interesting read: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270380/white-spots-on-my-hens-comb-pic. From fungal to a possible metabolism issue from Febendazole type worm medication.
Agree! Our police removed two dogs that we confined on our property(friendlygolden retrievers that we never have seen before) and put them at the animal control. When the person had to get them it cost them 150 per dog to get them back! They also paid for our loss. Dogs can come from...
These are auto sexing chicks from a cross between a Bielefelder roo and a CL hen :) We got one girl from the four total hatch. These guys will be a great size hopefully. The Biele Roo is about 10 lbs, but CL's are typically lighter birds.
Should turn out to be very pretty gentle giants.
We actually have pretty good luck with those plastic "owl" and "hawk" figures. I originally got them to ward off the millions of crows that want to get at our garden and yard. I had them sitting on top of the run :) funny crows would sit in trees and in the yard a half acre away and squawk at...
LOL....I absolutely dislike when someone asks me "how many chickens do you have"?
I always tell them it started with 8...now I THINK I have about...um...48? wait...I have three that just hatched under a broody but we sold six hens last week....um...
They usually then interrupt and say...
adding that her gut is full looking is more worrisome and indicative of reproductive issues. How old is she? Still...Corid in her water should not hurt her at all. Is she in a quiet place by herself?
With the wet conditions, Cocci is rampant. I would try Corid in the water if she is drinking...get it quick or she will become so weak she will stop eating/drinking all together. It wont hurt her to try this treatment. Three days in her waterer should show improvement but make sure she drinks...
so sad, sorry to hear! We had one chick under a hen pass. We found it at the bottom of the nest so it either was crushed, stepped on, or suffocated? The hen did not know it was gone as there were three other newborns under her. No eggs were left and we had removed all the shells.
We took it...
I would worry in the winter of too much moisture building up in a plastic tote. That would spell disaster for frostbite but I am not able to see if the tote has openings for air. Another problem we would have with the tote set up is the raccoons would be able to tear through it too easily and...
Definitely a roost with what we find is best for chickens...a 2 x 4 laying on its side..so they can perch on the 4 inch top, nestle down over their feet to keep them warm in frigid weather. Last two years of these uber chilled Michigan winters and all my birds have nary a foot/toe issue we are...
Yes Safeguard does have withdrawal, but you can just treat that one hen to see if that will help her. If you can separate her with her own waterer. We use it in the water.
The only worms you can readily see in chicken poo are round and tape and that's when they are heavily infested. Safeguard...
with the wet weather, parasites or worms are a huge problem. If you have not wormed, you should for all the varieties as some you can't even see or tell in the poo. Depending on her age, but usually listless, depressed, not eating is due to infestations. Can't hurt to hit her with some...
