Take care of yourself! That enterovirus D68 that is around the country has recently been confirmed here in Indiana. It's also officially in Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio (plus a bunch of other states). If you or your niece start having breathing trouble, go to the ER.

I thought I read a post from somebody who suggested scrambling them BEFORE freezing them in ice cube trays. That wouldn't help for use in baking (), but if you just want eggs for breakfast, it might be an option. Anybody else remember the post? Maybe I was on a different thread (although I...

Welcome! I'm from Bloomington too. We haven't gotten our chickens yet (argh), but have found BYC and the folks on this Indiana thread in particular to be very helpful and welcoming. I've learned a lot about chickens (and other poultry, and goats and sheep and alpaca and cows and......) here.

We have a Great Pyr that we adopted as a puppy from friends who have a farm. They own both his parents, both of whom are 100% outdoors and allowed to mix with cattle, donkey, horses, barn cats, geese, chickens, and a bunch of other dogs. His father is a true LGD, his mother a bit less so in...

Gotta show this to my husband! He will fall down laughing. Then again, it could be my skeleton and the sign would say 'waiting for husband at junk yard'.

my DH doesn't get to complain. My stash USED to be in the garage. Now the garage is full of old cars and car parts. It's almost as if he thinks that's what belongs in the garage...and the living room (seriously. Ever tried to find a spot on your coffee table to put down a soda and realize...

lol! My fabric/thread/yarn stash takes up so much room we had to get a shed for it. We thought about clearing it out to create a coop, but we have no place to put the stash. And there is no way I'm giving up my stash.

Welcome! I joined BYC this summer for the same reason and it has been an amazing resource. The Indiana-BYC'ers-here people have been particularly helpful and friendly and welcoming. I'm so glad I found this community. They not only are generous about chicken advice, but are also just a caring...

your pups are so adorable! Our vet says Darwin is the biggest Great Pyr she's ever seen. But he is not overweight at all - just big. How are yours with chickens?

Our Great Pyr, Darwin, is also usually low-energy. In fact, we call him 'the great white lump'. Here he is waiting for it to snow: He's 140 pounds, but looks bigger than that due to the fluff.

My Great Pyrenees would probably love to sleep in the coop in the winter. He falls asleep buried in snow in the back yard all the time. He does a happy dance every time it snows (which is way too infrequently in his opinion).

Definitely. It's been hotter than most of the rest of summer around here this week. Not only do I hate it, but our Great Pyrenees REALLY hates it. He's used to being able to cool off by resting atop the AC vent in the hallway.

Yikes! That's gonna hurt for a while. So sorry. I started being more conscious of my shoe choices when I was a grad student working in a genetics lab and let a big drop of phenol fall on my sandal-clad foot. Burned like heck. But you definitely have me beat. Hope it heals up fast.

My DH fixed our AC!!!!!! I knew there was a reason I married a mechanic.... and it isn't all the old cars in the driveway. So, back to the plan for getting chickens.

Well, it looks like our central AC is shot. If we can't repair it and have to replace it we'll have to delay getting chickens, as it will eat up the money we were saving for the coop, run and other stuff we need. Very depressed....
