    calling any one from missouri

We had horrible problems with mud in the coops in the springtime (think boots sloshing down inches deep in clay/poo mud mixture). So... we had $80 worth of sand shipped to our house and we put it all in the coop. This solved the problem for about a year, until the sand ran off and began sinking...

I use it for the same reasons. PDZ works, but doesn't soak up moisture quite as good as the powdered DE. Tractor Supply sometimes carries it in huge bags (that are the cheapest I've seen anywhere in this area). If they don't have it in stock, they can order it. It is the food grade DE...

I'm glad that it worked, and your birds are getting better. I'd keep them on it for at least 10 days, then after you have finished giving the Corid, give them some yogurt with beneficial bacteria (like Activia), and put some poultry vitamins in their water for a few days. Do not give poultry...

You can dose them at the moderate dose while still feeding medicated feed. I got this information from a vet as I had a severe case of coccidiosis when we had really wet soil here (you know... after lots of rain, like now). Mine were also older, and I was surprised that it hit so severely...

Before you put down any more of them, try Corid in their water. Here is a link to the dosing info: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/818879/updated-corid-and-amprol-amprolium-dosing It might be coccidiosis, which is easily treated with amprolium (Corid), which you can buy at tractor supply...

It's always a gamble when you get an older dog, over a younger one that you can train from scratch (though this can also be time consuming and difficult ). We knew our dog's temperament very well before getting chickens, and also what his brother's and sister's temperaments would be like...

    calling any one from missouri

A good farm dog is well worth the time, effort, and money. All of our neighbors have lost birds frequently to predators. We have a golden retriever/poodle mix that was an adult when we got chickens. He trained quickly and alerts instantly if our birds make any indication of trouble. Haven't...

    calling any one from missouri

Yeah, our chickens are also our pets. Even with the dogs outside, we've had to "fort knox" our chicken coop. There are rocks and buried fence around the bottom perimeter of the entire area, as well as heavy chicken wire across the entire top. We shut the door at night and then put a heavy...

I'm sorry. That sucks! Unfortunately, there are a multitude of predators (both domestic and wild) that kill chickens. We have dogs on patrol on our property and that helps, but it only takes one chicken that likes to graze further out, and one sneaky fox to lose one. I hope your others are ok.
