Just got off the phone with the neighbor, it is official we are not renting to him next year and he is coming over tonight to talk about the piece of his field I want to buy. It's about 1 acre and he wouldn't have access to it without us providing easement. Plus it has a decent wet spot in it...
I planted Garlic today. probably doubled what i started with last year. My garlic sold so well at the farmers market this year, plus i totally missed out on selling scapes because i didnt know that people even would want them. I have a decent pile left that I will be making some into confit...
The second barrel is supposed to help transfer more heat to the room, but I agree not exactly going to get you in the front page of home style magazine lol
Great to hear the results! I grow fodder in the winter but haven't convinced myself to do any sort of bug farming. If I can find some duck weed around the area soon I may play around with growing it indoors this winter.
I was considering a double barrel type stove when I found this one. By the time I bought barrels and the stove kit it was may more than this stove cost. I will need to invest in a few lengths of double wall stove pipe but not too much
I cut their morning feed yesterday and half the flock spent the day following me around "excuse me, you forgot to feed us today, excuse me!!" Lol always under foot!
In other news I picked up a used wood burning furnace yesterday to replace my tired old pot belly stove I use to heat my workshop...
Maybe i will start weaning their supplied feed. they have more than enough area to be ranging for food. I do feed them some in the AM and some in the afternoon. I think i will start weaning off the AM feed
Same question! I have a flock of 60 and we use about a hundred weight in 10 days even with free ranging. I probably could feed them a little less but still
Hello Dave! I feed a mix of corn, soy, oats, and some other things similar to how a feed store does but I grind mine much coarser than they do so there is less powder. That helps a ton with waste and would help with your issue probably. Also make sure the feed is staying dry, in storage and in...
Maybe you are waiting too long to peel the husk? I usually peel mine when they are still a tad green it mostly brown. They peel easy enough but still stain a bit.
I have white walnuts on my farm, sometimes called butternuts
Dexters are my favorite breed! Our goal is to add cows in spring 2018 and I'm thinking Dexters too. Our land is in soybeans this year so we are going to working establishing pasture next summer and fencing.
I suppose our pup want thinking ahead at what might happen if she ate a bunch of lard that tasted so good in the moment ;)
A little bit probably goes a long way
That seems fairly consistent with what I'm seeing around here for prices too.
I'm not specifically looking to own a registered breeding group but on the one hand it would be nice to know that the breeding stock I start with aren't super inbred already. Might be worth a little more money up front
