Haha, there are so many people who sell "Davis" or "Jeane" birds who are far from the originals chosen and bred by the breeders themselves. Especially Wade Jeane. And then there's the people who try and put their own name on their Marans lines, even though it is obvious they've only had Marans...

Quote: The roo coloring is a fascinating thing to get into because there's more to look for, and he's the one covering everyone. For a hen, you simply need a solid black with some good copper hackling on the neck. Not too much that it drapes down to the back, and certainly not anything like...

My eldest cockerel, Maple, CROWED today!!!! I've been waiting and wondering for a while now when my boys would start crowing. . . It gets me all jealous and stuff hearing other people complain that their cockerels started crowing. I wanted mine to start their new "howl"

Quote: Yes, you can breed feathering back into their legs, but it will take some generations to get full feathering (no offspring with clean shanks). It takes focus on who's got both feathered shank genes, and who doesn't.

. . . My opinion on the Blue Birchens is that almost everyone has unfinished examples. Even as it says on Bev Davis' site, which I do realize is old, they have a long way to go. Blue Birchens, far as I would think - Should not have any yellow to them, and should certainly look like a normal...

Drom, I'm so jealous. . . My Wheaten boys are freaks. Especially my Blue Wheatens. . . They will make the biggest drama king scene if they even see me eye them.

Quote: Gosh I'm just the opposite. I just don't really like bantams. . . Those bugged eyes, tiny baby faces, and squat little legs. . . I like my chickens normal sized or huge. I wouldn't mind if I had some roosters over the SOP weight, just as long as they didn't pass it on too much or...

Okay, NOW it makes sense. . . 14 pounds. Wow. I can't wait until my boys reach that. I remember the average weight being somewhere above 10 pounds, I just couldn't imagine it being 14. . .

Quote: Curious, anyone here know exactly how much their Marans roosters weigh? . . . Because I always (gasp, also talking non-Marans) thought Ameraucanas and Easter Egger roosters should weigh 5-6.5 pounds. Well, I know for one that the last and only Marans rooster I saw in my life must have...

Seriously, the last Wheaten / Blue Wheaten eggs I bought, I got 15 eggs. . . . 6 were fertile, then. . . 3 hatched. Guess what?! ALL boys! The nice thing is that my supplier was SO kind when we bought sexed Wheaties from her, she charged us half price because of our luck with the eggs.

Quote: Wow I only see TWO cockerels out of that whole bunch. Take a look at my Wheatens I posted earlier - The cockerels will usually feather in much later, and their wings are a nice solid brown and black. You've only got two - The two that constantly show up in the photos as kinda naked with...
