I hate to hear that, too. A coon got my brooding CM hen. She had hatched some chicks and had more to hatch. i went out to check Sunday afternoon and hen, chicks and eggs were gone. The darn coon tore a hole in the fencing where it had begun to rust. I do have more hens, laying eggs if you are...
From what I understand, yes, side sprigs are automatically a disqualification. I would not keep them in my breeding pen. It might be a good thing all of them are roos. That gene won't get hidden in a hen.
Here is a picture of my cuckoo marans eggs. These are the clean shank ones. They are a shade or two darker than my feather shank ones, but I'm working on them. I have 49 eggs in the bater (day 19), so I'm hoping to post baby pictures soon.
I'm going to join the March Hatch Madneess some time this month. If anyone would like or need some cuckoo marans eggs, Pm me and I will make you a good deal. I am not opposed to a swap.

I absolutely adore my cuckoos! They are my best behaved birds and not nearly as "common" as my RIRs and BRs and BOs. So you do what you want but please try to not insult those of us that have them and love them! OK backing away now...
It's OK girls don't listen to them, Mommy loves...
Here's what I have been getting. The light one is an off-white egg for contrast. This pic was taken about a week ago. The eggs I am getting now are slightly darker.
Iagree, you have to do what is best for you. When I stared selling my cuckoo marans,I started a $15/doz-including shipping. Gradually,as I improved my flockand prices went up, I felt comfortable in raising my prices. Also, as you improve your flock, you will seek out establshed breeders and...
It's really hard to tell from pictures, but they seem a little light to me. Here are some of mine(cuckoo marans) The flash made them appear lighter. They are actually a shade darker in person.
I agree with Tina,KLF73. Looks as though you have them grouped correctly. One of the chicks in the male group may tyrn out to be female. You could check it's legs. The female chicks are more likeyly to have dark coloring down their legs.
Gina(the other ina)
Here are the best examples I can find. I am as sure that one is male and one is female as I could ever be. These chicks are 1 day old. The male is the chick in the foreground
Once they dry,you should see a distinct difference between male and female. The males should be lighter and may look slightly greyish, while the females will be darker and may have black coloring going down their legs, I think the shape and size of the headspot may indicate sex also, but I forget...
I am having a great hatch! So far I have 32 chicks from 38 eggs. 13 are my cuckoo marans. There are still 6 marans eggs in the bter. Here's a picture of few cuties.
