Actually, the Wheaten qualifying is not going to be in Illinois. Dick mis-spoke when he said that. It was discussed, but never voted on. So its still up in the air as to where it will be located. Logic would dictate to hold it in an area where there are a lot of Wheaten breeders. Illinois...
You just tip the egg cartons, not the whole incubator!

I thought about doing that but ran into a problem. How would I then stop the water from going all over the place?
Are these eggs you bought or hatched from your own birds? I'm asking because the cockerel doesn't look right to me either. I would guess you have cross birds if I didnn't know the parents. Where did the parents come from ? Did they come from black coppers? I would guess that might be what is...
Wait until they are mature and then make your pics. I've had the ugliest cockerels turn into beautifiul adults...then sometimes they stay ugly. You just don't know until they mature.

Ok, I've been pronouncing it over a few times, and I think its more "gutteal" than nasal...sorry.

Oh, I thought the second syllable had the closed nasel vowel sound not the open one
I have run it though the audio translators on-line in the past and they do pronounce it with the...
I have french friend from the Marans part of France and he pronounces it mah rawn (the a is a short a, ah, not A as in abc). At least thats how it sounds to me, s is silent & the rawn part is nasely sounding.

Well, you will notice, that I said "if they are only from her line".....there is the "if" there....its obvious that from the breeder to anyone after that things can be bred in & changed. The poster asked about Bev's line and I responded with my experience with stock directly from her.

I have not hatched wheaten from blackcoppers so I have no personal experience with what they look like or what they throw.
I know that there are people who have started their Wheatens from those offspring. There was some discussion when these first started showing up about whether to breed them...
I believe the American group that is involved with setting the standard for the APA does't care what the French Think. But, they do have to submit the standard according to the APA guidelines and use the required language with an eye towards making the standard as close to the French as...
No, there are no super Marans out there. The poster asked about the chance of getting Wheaten in the Davis line and I responded with my experience and that of others.
There are multiple posts on many forums with people stating their Wade Jeans bcs threw wheatens. Its not a secret. I'm sure...

This is a really fun calculator. Don't know if you have tried it or not but all you do is select your bird's color types in the drop down box and then click on " go to chicken calculator" on the right and it will provide you with the theoretical percentage of different offspring and...

It looks, from the overall copper feathering on the male, that they are a mixture of both. .
Iif the wing triangle is not beige, he could still be part Wheaten. That is the problem with one of the lines of black coppers in the USA.I f It has Wheaten in it, sometimes chicks are...

= rooster feathered.
That would be odd, & since I haven't had that happen it seems strange. But, then, I usually run on all my birds anyhow. You never know when that ugly cockerel will turn into a swan, err, I mean a good looking rooster! LOL
The thing I do cull early for though, is...

There are other ways to tell a roo, pointy hackle & sickle feathers before 7 months of age. I've never had a cockerel, that didn't show at least 1 copper feather on wings or back, by 4 months of age. Even on the cockerels that showed copper late, I could tell it was a boy by the other...

The comb & wattles on males start to grow & get redder than the pullets. Pullets combs & wattles stay dark & small for quite a long time.
Something I've noticed with my birds is the males usually have more feathers on their legs than the girls after just a few weeks.
Also the boys...
The American standard is being worked on, with an eye towards getting it as close to the French Standard as is allowed. Note: wording has to be in the APAs language...whatever that means. So there should be some changes coming.
Don't ask me what the changes are, I'm not on the committee that...

Ohio, it is the APA Semi-annual show.
Sorry about the hijacking, I just happened to think about it while I was reading the posts....
A thousand pardons.
I'm hijacking this thread wondering if anyone is going to the APA show in Lucasville this weekend?
I'm going, will be at the Marans Chicken Club booth, and have chicks for sale...We also will have a raffle with a basket of poultry things for sale, over $150.00 worth of goodies!
Hope to see...
