I agree, mothering is a very important job. I coached girls basketball until my first son was born. Then it was too hard being out until 11 and getting up at 5 to do it all again.
Thankfully, I work in the same school system my kids are in. That is a huge blessing.
I feel that it is an...
I always said I'd never cook two meals at once for my family and God gave me a child with severe food allergies! Ha! Thankfully my husband is NOT picky and will eat just about anything I cook. Boy #1 is picky mostly due to his food allergies and Boy #2 likes anything Boy #1 doesn't just to...
My canning is on hold for the moment. I'm finding it difficult to teach full time and homestead at the capacity I want to. Not to mention, both of mine are in school now.
Working on apples today. Our tree had a great harvest this year. One of the best I every remember. My oldest son started saying he wanted apple sauce so I'm attempting applesauce today. I also have apple butter in the crockpot. So I have a few questions:
1. The apple butter has to cook...
We do have a lot. We have two of the largest fig trees I've ever seen. :). I'm going to open a jar from last night and see what I think after it has set. I'm defiantly going for a smoky flavor and not so much crisp and fruity. Yeah, folks around here are selling their figs anywhere from...
I agree. Figs are delicious enough by themselves. I love the sweet and spicy combo and was just trying out what I had. FAIL. I don't even know of I could get rasberries around here. And I bet they'd be $$$ if I could.
Our local walmart has poblanos and serranos, so those might be better...
What's
What's ghosts pepper? I did fig jam and jalepeno fig jelly. I didn't like the way the jalepeno fig turned out. I was shooting for something along the lines of a raspberry chipotle. Yeah. Not even close.
I'm drying apples at the moment. We have apples...bunches of apples. Littles are hollering for "homemade applesauce" and I'm wanting to put up pie filling for pies, dumplings, crisp, etc. And we may have enough for a bit of apple butter or just cinnamon apple rings.
I've never had zucchini bread. I made a small
Batch of bread and butter pickles too. My mom and sister are already begging me for more. She said, I don't care if you have to go to the store and BUY the cucumbers, I want some more. ;). It made me feel good. The funny thing is, I like
Bread...
I'm waiting on our figs to ripen. I don't know what I'm gonna do with them, but I'm going to do something. Probably not the fig jam. Not really a fan. Maybe some peppery fig jelly/sauce or fig newtons, oh or chocolate covered figs....
I pl
an on checking that out as soon as I finish reading the entire Grandpa thread. I only have about 30 more pages. I've found some really good ideas, some I've had to go look for an egg free version but that's ok.
For some reason I cannot open links on the mobile app. Here is the recipe I used:

I think I've just lost my newbie canner status.
Today I canned Cowboy Candy, Tomato Basil Jam, Salsa, Kosher Dill Pickles, and Green Tomato Salsa Verde.
I'm exhausted, but at the same time I feel so empowered!
Last night I boiled and shredded a chicken, froze the meat used the broth...
