Have you ever canned grapefruit with the cranberry juice and honey? Recipe in BBB. I just came across it the other night. I am about the only one in my family that likes grapefruit and my grandmother sends me a case every Christmas - getting package today...
No, but I have plenty of...
Did 7 pints of applesauce today. I think that may be the last of my canning for awhile. DD loves cranberry juice so I may do that next weekend, but other than that, I am pretty much done for the year.
We'll get our 1/4 beef after the first of the year, and after that, very little shopping until...
We had our first frost last night so I spent all of last night canning green tomato pickles and tomato sauce. I've got a bunch of raspberries in the freezer so I should make jam and jelly out of that soon.
Daughter and I are going out to an endurance ride this weekend, so we'll be gone 3 days and had a bunch of ripe tomatoes. Didn't have time to can tonight, so I froze many quarts of tomato puree as well as 3 quarts of green beans.

If I had a crawl space, I'd tell no one and convert it to a girl cave. Complete with sound, books, a fireplace, a quilt that no dog nor peanut buttered child had trod upon, no big screen tv, candles, a jaccuzzi, NO LAUNDRY ROOM or phone access. the toilet seat shows no signs of misses...
ANyone else use a crawl space to store canned goods?
I want to use it for a root cellar, but I'm worried about mice. But I've got 2 milk crates full of canned goods in it now: pickles, blackberry jam, blackberry jelly, canned peaches and canned blueberries.

This happened to me last year with cherry jam. Not thinking, I stuffed them in the freezer. When I finally came across them this spring, the jam was admittedly runny but made a dandy ice cream topping.
How are the rest of you managing to can in this heat? There's some pickles in the garden just asking to be made into dill spears but with 90 degree temps outside, I can't get motivated to boil any water

We live in an old house without much storage, we stash stuff under the bed, under the sofa, under the sideboard...
We have a formal living room and dining room with my grand mothers "priceless" furniture. I keep telling my wife we need to drag it all outside, burn it and turn those...
I've seen recipes for spiced pears and brandied pears in the Ball Blue Book.
You could also can pear puree or pear nectar or pear juice. My mother eats pear puree like applesauce and puts it in bran muffins.

I was just thinking of your post about it getting to cold at night for the tomatoes. I have a lot of green tomatoes left on the vine at my place too and we have officially gotten our first freeze warning for the year. So I am thinking that I should probably go out and gather up all...
