They aren't going to challenge the Leghorns but will give most 'dual purpose birds' a hard run for the money! I think they are especially good layers for such a large breed.

Sometime you have to go bold. My brother was 'bold' (stupid) enough to bring a bunch of well bred (understatement) Chanteclers across the border and I managed to get 20 of them sans frais. There must be a way to get some good Bucks into Canada, even keeping within the law or perhaps just...

@cvamoca I strongly disagree with one of your points. In my opinion, the Buckeye can be extremely flashy if you cast your eye on the right stock.

The first time I bought Buckeyes they came from a pretty good hatchery but I don't have to be hit over the head twice. When I buy Buckeyes again they will come from a breeder of quality birds..

At this point in our breeding program, I personally couldn't care less but I do wonder what Nettie would think about crossing her Buckeyes every which way? With whatever bird or mix of birds and for whatever reason? I seems that things have changed so dramatically from the time a couple years...

I've read most of this thread and just about everything else I can find in print and have never seen that subject mentioned. Unless the bird meets it's end by the hatchet or some other misfortune and it lives a reasonably long life, Like humans, it will succumb to death, likely helped along...

I have no doubt that Joe has earned every accolade and perhaps deserves more. However, I don't think he's prepared to rest on his laurels. One need not to be a savant to have a pretty good idea where some additional awards will be manifest. Turk

Joe, my brother bought the birds originally. I gave him your email address and he will let you know where they came from. You can do with the information what you wish. Turk

Perhaps, but I'm led to believe it occurs with some frequency in this line. I will not name the flock where this (these) youngsters can be found because I don't wan't to be drawn and quartered. I will say that they are NOT from any flocks that have been discussed over the last few days. It...

I'm certainly no expert...either with chickens in general nor Buckeyes in particular but I do know that it's not all that uncommon for a single combed chick to be hatched into a clutch of pure Buckeyes. It happens...likely more than many folks will ever know. I don't know the value of these...

Reading battle signs can be tricky. What might have looked to you as the Silver giving battle might quite likely best be described as the coon dragging the bird by the head while it flapped valiantly or hysterically to get away. I'm a coon hunter and I've seen coons whip some pretty big...
