I agree, they are my most dependable bird.

I am sure it will. I am actually needing roosters this year so we will see.

Not to ruin it for everybody but my child was reading about Chinese culture and each lunar year is a different animal. Apparently 2017 is the year of the rooster. Might be eating more drum sticks than normal this year. :)

I have and found they suck compared to breeders buckeyes. Not all breeders have good stock either but there are lots that are on this form who do have far better to AWESOME stock than the thin skinny buckeyes from the hatchery that I got them from. My recommendation is to spend the extra money...

I agree, I cannot stand a roo that never shuts up. Or when somebody sets the roo alarm form 4:30_9:00am and when anybody is in the yard.

I am not a breeder by no means but that is one handsome roo. Every time he posts pics of him he just gets darker and more handsome. Good job Holm 25!

Just went out today to sell some old hens and had to take this pic of the buckeye hen. This hen hatched out 3 batches this year. This molt is crazy..

Now, That would drive me crazy with having birds go broody three times. The person you got them from must work very hard with breeding to standard and he/she must know what they are doing. Please post pics of the fuzzy butts when they hatch.

They make great mothers. I had two buckeyes that went broody this year TWICE. I got them from a good buckeye breeder. I just wish I bought more from that person at the time. What I have been doing was putting more eggs in the incubator and let the hens sit on 4 or so eggs. So after her and the...

Well you are more than half way there. Just 6 more days of then 3-4 more days of . And if there was a nail biter smiley I would have used that one instead the finger crossed one.

Do you incubate every 21 days per hatch or less?

I would agree with you that they might be hiding the eggs. All of my welsummers ended up laying under one of the nest boxes in a corner behind my feed barrel. I have to almost lay on the ground to fetch the eggs. They are keeping up with the buckeyes but my coop is in the 50's which I dont like...

I have incubated 160ish eggs last year at a time with about 24 hens. It sure does add up and I am sure you will like the extra room when you need it. I am currently incubating 63 eggs and wish I had a hatcher so I can fill the incubator up.

How did you get them so dark. Even in the dark with no flash, they are a nice brown.
