Waterless antibacterial hand soap might clean off the Vaseline. It does great at removing baby oil (I use baby oil to loosen up tape to easily remove it from injured chickens' legs).

If you use grass clippings, be sure to spread them enough that they don't develop mold. Mold is BAD for chickens.
