i read it on a website when I was researching quail one night I haven't done it, so I really cant say what way it was done. just they were using in field trials and that the offspring don't reproduce like mules.
if the pullets are eating laying feed they can start laying eggs most likely the egg will not have a Yoke in it. and if you continue the laying feed there is a high possibility that you can ruin the egg production of the pullets. so be careful of what you are doing with your young pullets.
I am building up my folk on these right now so i dont have any at this time. my female started laying way early this year and most her eggs froze. only had one that didnt break. and this is it so far. she laid 7 eggs and quit.
