Incubator is back up and running!
Unfortunately, this is the first time eggs I've ordered from different sellers didn't ship exactly when they said they would and I have no choice but to do a staggered hatch.
So fingers crossed I don't lose too many, I've never had to do this before!
This...
I want cream legbars!!!
I was bidding on them for this hatch and upped my bid pretty good a couple minutes before the auction ended. Had to deal with my kids came back and already lost :(
I'm in NC and my mail order eggs usually hatch on time
I always rest them at least 12 hours before they go in the incubator too.
Where in Eastern NC are you? I'm in Fayetteville
There's also a thread just for people in NC, a lot of good people on there :)
I'm never done, I think I have a problem! haha
We're going to have to start hatching meat birds before we are completely overrun with chickens
We don't even live in the country, we're right in town
Is there an October Hatch A long?
I've found every month, but that one
(I did however learn that some day in October is national egg hatching day?)
Getting ready to load the bator back up later in the week for an early October hatch :)
I think I need to go to Hatching Anonymous :)
Can't leave my bator off as soon as I get a hatch I end up ordering more eggs even though I don't need any more chickens!
Should be loaded back up by Wednesday.
Now if I could only keep roosters I could cut out ebay....
I'm so sorry.
I had never lived on a farm or had chickens or anything and decided one day I wanted them so I ordered 5 day old chicks in November. Got them a coop and all outside, but turned our downstairs bathroom into a brooder because it was pretty cold and they stayed inside for probably...
What do you all use for candling?
I had an LED flashlight, but I couldn't see that well in my dark eggs (been hatching Marans lately).
So I ordered the Farm Innovations candler you plug in to the wall and it's worse than my flashlight.
I can tell if there's something in there or just the yolk...
I don't know if you're looking for like breeder show stock, but Ideal Poultry has lavender silkie chicks for about $3 a piece. Shipping charges are next to nothing and you only need a $25 minimum order. They're sold out until Spring, but you could get on a waitlist, they usually start shipping...
I think my lone chick is getting lonely, he's helping the others hatch!
In all my other hatches they all came out around the same time, didn't have one this early
Okay, thanks for the tip!
This morning this one's still the only one out.
I have 3 others pipped, but they didn't make any progress over night still just sitting there.
I'm getting worried that I'm not seeing much action from all the other eggs!!!
I'm sorry!
I'm far from an expert (on hatch #6), but I use candling to learn and always put my eggs back in the bator, just in case!
(My first hatch one looked like a dud I opened it up more than half way through and the chick came out heart still beating, but obviously too young to live. I...
Hey guys--
I originally posted this on my NC thread where I usually am, but no one seems to be up so re-posting here for all you experienced hatchers!!!
I went into lockdown yesterday morning.
I had an Isbar rocking all day and did a pip this afternoon.
I could hear it chirping for awhile...
