Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

OK Warm foot baths! I'll keep an eye out for icy feet. Maybe we can all take a warm foot bath together!!!! On another subject - GMO. If the corn or wheat that the chickens eat is a GMO product won't the eggs be a GMO as well? We probably eat 90% organic. And stay away from anything I can...

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

I didn't realize that my little cochin may not dry easily because of her dense feathers and feathered feet. What should I do to make the winter easier on her??? Straw/hay on the ground of the pen and parts of the recreation area. I have a protective pen around the coop and also an extended...

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

I hope you know I was writing with humor, if you're referring to my reply. If I knew how to make those jumping smiley faces, I would have added one or two. I truly enjoy all that I learn from this site and your reply, I thought was great. I'm trying to put together a winter formula that one of...

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

Gifa, How funny! Slick vs un-slick. I spent many years in the medical field and never came upon the definition of a "slick ovary". Wow! I learn something every day on this site. I feel my hens have led me onto a new and enlightened path. Thank you. Steena

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

Very funny. I didn't know there were olive colored eggs. I looked up Barbanter personalities and found that the hens are very easy and non-aggressive. Few people talk about the Barbanter roo. I could tell them a thing or two. Anyone know more about the roo? Steena

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

Me, too. I love this site. I like you, care more for the girls as pets and less about what comes out of them. I thought I had three hens, but like others who have been surprised, Rosie is a cockerel. Beautiful Brabanter, but mean and bossy. My goodness - Rosie pulls at the girl's head feathers...

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

OK I'm not going to put in any kind of heat be it light bulb or "hot tub"! The coop is surrounded by a wonderful pen which has solar plexi and it's vented at the top. It's a nice set-up. They will not be bothered by wind and I'll be sure they get a good diet. I bought some seed mix, yesterday...

Is there a downside to putting a light in the coop for the winter months?

Hi, I'm new to raising chickens and I only have three very "spoiled" hens, but I learn a lot from all of you who are so kind to give advice and support. I bought an extension with a caged light bulb on one end so that the girls would have some source of heat in winter. Here in NYS it get...
