Those work very well with a birdbath heater in them. Or if no heat source, you can bang the ice out of them without hurting them. They're virtually indestructible. One problem is that roosters' wattles dangle in the water contributing to frostbite.- ChickenCanoe

The galvanized might be better to work with some kind of heater since it won't melt and the metal will wick the heat. ACV can't be used with galvanized, it will eat it up.- ChickenCanoe
