It's been a while since I posted, my health is kicking my butt. I am sad to say that I lost my bantam frizzle, she was more of a pet to me so sad. My other half built me a new run off the coop and apparently something was able to get under and when I found her all that was left was her rump area...
Yes it is too bad. Lucky for me other half is a carpenter for a construction company so he can do the work, only problem is they are so busy at work with all the hurricane damage that he has been working lots of hours.
Thanks for the offer, but I need to keep things real small scale right now because of my health. They are lovely though. Thanks for the get well wishes.
I have been away for a little while, had some health issues. During that time I had to cut back on all our farm animals as I was too sick to keep up with them all. So I am now turkeyless, and I sold a whole coop of hens with their rooster to a family down the road, I also sold all my 3-8 week...
Oh thank you...pretty happy with the size of the hens actually. The rooster has really filled out nice, I can see his father in him. I cannot wait to cross my new English Crele Orpington with him, she has a nice stocky body.
I will watch for your pictures......:ya
Thought I would share some up-dated pics of the birds.
Ole red and chicks none of which are from her own eggs. I got 2 black chicks & 3 yellows so they are from the new rooster and the Orpington cross hens.
Here is one of the rooster when he first came and now he has developed a little...
So we finally got several days of much needed rain, whatever is going to grow back will. Chances are we will have to seed parts of the pasture to help it recover.
I had three broody hens I couldn't break so I gave them each 2 eggs to sit on, 5 chicks were born today one other egg didn't make...
We finally got a good rain, some hard rain Sunday and then it has drizzling all day today. Fingers crossed for the pasture to pop back.
On a sadder note, the sunflowers I was growing for my parrot were ravaged by squirrels who ate entire flowers ugh........
Luckily we do have some large oaks that overhang the runs. Mine hate any kind of water being actually sprayed on them, but jump and roll in puddles.
Just fed and felt two drops of rain then it stopped although in the distance I can see a storm ugh.....
Misters are a good idea. I am home all day so I do usually go out and make a mud puddle or two in the runs. The chickens seem to enjoy that. I am sort of afraid to run the well dry, it has been so dry and I have been using a lot of water trying to keep lawn, parts of the pasture and trees alive...
Yeah I was thinking of you when I was outside today trying to make sure everyone had enough water and shade. Once again tonight I can hear the thunder of near by storms but no rain here yet. The news said this is the worst drought in over 20 years in this area which is funny because 2 years ago...
Wow it's been extremely hot here In the upper 90's with little to no rain, I feel like I have moved to the desert. I have lost about half the pasture and our lawn has giant patches of brown despite me trying to get some water on it. The storms keep missing us, we need the rain so badly. I have...
I tried the bleed out my first time and I thought it took too long it seemed cruel to me because the bird was conscious. I like the quick decapitation it seems kinder. With the turkeys we use a feed sack around the body and a bit of duct tape to snug it up so they cannot flap too much, turkeys...
