I don't think that was it. Doesn't she have Sumatras? I'll have to search for my yearbooks that the kids have hidden somewhere.

Eric Nelson breeds the SS Hamburgs (I believe he's an APA judge). I also saw a breeder in the 2017 APA yearbook with SS Hamburgs but I don't recall the name currently. Have you considered Minorcas? I don't personally care for their shape, but they come in your preferred colors, are large, and...

I was just told a couple of days ago that he's liquidated most of his stock due to health issues. Hamburgs are favorites. I actually found out about Urch selling his stock when I was asking for breeder recommendations for Golden Penciled Hamburgs. Found a guy who has had them for 30 years that...

My #1 plan for 2018 is more breeding pens and a bachelor pen for cockerels. On the actual breeding front I'm working primarily with American Buff geese and Silver Appleyard ducks. With chickens my main projects are Speckled Sussex and a couple of EE color projects. Should my Sussex ever start...

This might be a bit disjointed, so excuse me if it is. I've got a clingy toddler. For the most part any of the white egg breeds you get from hatcheries are going to be heavily skewed to egg production rather than meat. They do mature quickly (butcher at 12 weeks or sooner). You can select for...

I've been fighting with crop issues for months now in a Blue Ameraucana cockerel. No matter what I did, and I tried everything, it wasn't clearing up. His weight was dropping even though some food was clearly getting through because he wasn't weak after months of this. The smell of his breath...

In English Orpingtons it's called Jubilee. It's basically just a Red Mille Fleur. Speckled Sussex are the same color too.

It's sunny today! Our weather's been like this lately: Except that it's not summer and it's been 7 months... Anyway, I wanted to share a picture of one of my English Orp hens out with her brood of goslings. She's a big girl, but I'm thinking they might outgrow her "assets" by 5 weeks.

We briefly tried using 5-gallon buckets mounted on the coop wall as nestboxes. One morning I discovered a cockerel stuck between 2 of the buckets. He'd flown off the roost onto the buckets, slipped, and slid down between. He couldn't stand for a few days after that and we weren't sure if he...

I put mine on the counter (in the workroom off our barn, not the kitchen!) and then cover the heads and front half of the body up with my old barn coat. The darkness makes them freeze and I can simply drape one arm over them to keep the coat in place and use that hand to hold the leg while I nip...

Welcome! What breed of ducks do you raise? I just lost my breeding pair of Welsh Harlequins to foxes about 2 weeks ago. What kind of geese and ducks are you getting? Love my geese! Did you get your pond water issue dealt with?

You're very welcome! I forgot to add 3 other N/S American breeds: Lamonas (essentially extinct), Ameraucanas, and Araucanas.

Here are some breeds for you to consider, besides Wyandottes: Barred Holland Dominique (I like them better than Barred Rocks). Cubalaya Delaware Rhode Island White/Red Plymouth Rocks (lots of rare varieties besides the common Barred & White). Buckeye Chantecler Java Jersey Giant New Hampshire...

At risk of giving away my hometown, we drive by Territorial pretty much everyday. There retail store is on the road out of town that we take to get home. It's a great store with great plants in a sizeable variety.
