This was an egg I had put in under a chicken. The first time for all of us. There was no liquid in the egg except for the dampness you can see on the feathers in the picture.
hello everyone. I've been away for a long time and sorry to say I'm back with bad news Our ducks never hatched any eggs or went broody after their first attempts but I recently had two broody chickens and I put one duck egg in with each of them after a few days. Long story short... ended up...
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. No babies here, all eggs were abandoned Picking them up every day now. We shall try again in the Spring. HAPPY NEW YEAR all!
Same duck different eggs.
I cut it back today. I just don't know what to think of this girl. She was sitting on the eggs this morning but this evening she was out and they were all cold. I knew this was pushing it close to winter. I'm going to candle again Sat. and if I don't find anything...
Alot of them are not fertile from what I could tell when candling. I had planned to cull it way down today. I removed some eggs when I removed the divider the other day but I didn't want to change it up too much at once by taking most of the eggs.
Sorry, I should have said that was a picture from one of my candling charts. I'm afraid it is a rotten egg as you said, she hasn't been sitting that long. BIG SURPRISE tonight when I went to put them up. Momma was back on the nest. She came out to eat meal worms with the others and I was...
Thank you. Yes, the others do have access. Is that ok? I think I will tidy it up and wait it out. I was for sure she was serious because she was sooo grumpy. I did candle the eggs and one looked like this: I just don't see that it can be a live because I never saw any of the in between...
Sad news to report... seems Momma duck abandoned eggs again. It must have been just shortly after I removed the divider. It appears as one big scattered nest now and eggs are cold. Just wasn't meant to be
She went to the pond today and fussed the whole time, lol. I removed the divider and got rid of the cold egg side. I candled but didn't really see anything but fertile and non fertile. I left a bunch of eggs tho cause I'm afraid of my candling skill. I will remove down to 8 this weekend.
She does come out to eat and poop when I put them up at night. The duck pond isn't far from the pen so I haven't put a swimming pool in the pen. Maybe I should because I don't know if she is going to the pond during the day or not to bathe. 8 it will be because I don't want to be overwhelmed...
This will be my first 24/7 brooder. I think it's the same girl that was sitting on the side of the house but she hadn't committed full time to that nest when I moved it. She started over in the nest box when I moved those eggs to the night pen. I tried candling and I'm no good at it, lol. I...
Sure will y'all. I'm kind of worried though. The nest is in a big box and there are two nests with a divider between them. One day she was sitting on one side and the next day she was on the other side. Both have eggs in them. She does seem to be staying on one side now, 24/7. Should I pick...
