Well, I've spent so much money on my coops I can't afford to finish my own house. :o)

    Chickens who HATE snow?

So?? Have you built your covered run yet? Remember last year......the horrid snow storm of the century on Nov 2nd. That's only two weeks from today! I had two automatic solar powered photo eye chicken doors installed last week. They are AWESOME!! Now they can come out at a 430 sunrise in...

    Chickens who HATE snow?

Here's the inside of my two runs. Nice and cozy in spite of the blizzard. (see my exterior pic above in the middle of the blizzard, post #143.) Unfortunately, the doors to the coops are on the back side which gave me a good 3 hours of shovel time this morning. Snow thigh high but I wouldn't...

    Chickens who HATE snow?

These panels have been a LIFE-SAVER! They almost completely eliminate the wind chill factor which is significant and once I get in, there is no snow to shovel, the hay, food and heated water are clean and dry and I just can't even express how much I love it!! I just wish my coop man-doors were...

    Chickens who HATE snow?

Yellowchicks, we're in Maine and getting NAILED!! I've trudged out to the coops several times today and there is no indication of my efforts due to the 18" of snow and blowing drifts! Thank goodness I've enclosed the runs with clear roofing panels so at least the interior is dry and clear with...

    Chickens who HATE snow?

Thank you! My coop was built better than my house was! It was built in Oct for my first three hens. Within 2 months, I was rescuing 4 more. And as soon as the weather breaks and my coop guy can keep building, I'm rescuing 10 more. Never did I imagine that I'd ever have 17 rescued hens!

    Chickens who HATE snow?

BTW: They love the kiddie pool, but it's shallow, so I have to keep replenishing the peat moss as they kick and throw it out. Something a bit deeper would be better. But this is easy for them to get in and out of and as you can see, big enough for four.

    Chickens who HATE snow?

Amazing what a little sunshine will do! Yesterday during the snowstorm, they spent the first day ever inside the coop....all day. I kept wondering what was ailing them as they always prefer the outdoors regardless of the wind, snow or below zero temps.

    Chickens who HATE snow?

Yes, they LOVE it!!! Initially I had a huge litter box and they were all struggling and fighting to get in together. I looked over and decided my dogs were going to sacrifice their pool. Of course I had to dig the peat moss out from under 3 feet of snow at the lumber store, thaw it out in the...

    Chickens who HATE snow?

We've had a terrible winter, tons of snow and ice, rain then zero deg temps, more snow, more snow....... This is a new coop and run and four of these hens came to me in Dec during the neg 10 deg days from a huge hoarder rescue. Anyway, I put plastic over 75% of the run and every snowstorm, I...
