I have tarp covering the chain link fence around and above my coop/run, except for one side. My concern would be that as the temps rise, the mud + straw could result in mold growth. That's why I haven't put anything on the ground to dry it out. It's a muddy mess.

Thanks for the input. I have pine shavings in the tiny run under the coop. I'll try putting straw around it to keep the water from the snow from seeping in from under the fence. I just worry about mold growth, but it shouldn't be a problem with the temps still on the low side.

Now the temps are higher here. It is raining and the snow is starting to melt, making the ground around the run very muddy. Does anybody have a way of keeping the place dry when that happens? I appreciate the feedback.
Update! My chickens started laying again on Valentine's day! I can't believe how much I missed their delicious eggs. They still won't venture in the snow, though.
