Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

I too would love to have enough property for all the different species birds you mention. I love birds. We only have 5 acres and neighbors so have to curb my desires. I do try so hard to find good homes for my chicks too. I discourage some from getting them. What I do to "discourage" is to...

Tomtommom, I get calls all the time from folks that has bought peafowl from me needing advice. Didn't mind it at first but it does get tiring as the numbers grow. I try so hard to sell to only good homes. I discourage those I don't believe will care for my birds properly and ofter start a...

Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

Beekissed doesn't "worry" but I'm concerned and cautious. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm thinking if I can create a wood frame with vinyl coated chicken wire across the top and lay the heating pad over it. Maybe use a 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 on each side so it would be 4 or 6 inches high. That way...

WHY??? does the woman in the video state the heating pad is not a fire hazard? Recently a heating pad started a fire at a zoo, did a lot of damage and killed animals. I'm assuming there is a reason heating pads are mostly now made with an auto shut off. Believe directions say not to cover the...

WOW, this thread is really building up the pages to read. I found it interesting about eggs needing different humidity depending on how porous they are. Does make it difficult without using more incubators with different humidity to continue on with growing eggs when their weight isn't the...

Beekissed, I see I got an ovation from you but don't know how to respond directly to it. Some of backyardchickens confuses me. I'm bowing to you now and thank you for the honor. I can't make the fun little thingies cause the toolbar is no longer available to me which also allows me to add...

Thanks for asking Morrisonmanor. I meant to ask but forgot. What the heck is a water wiggler and picture would be great so we can spot them at the store. Did I read they can be found at Walmart? Forgive me if I'm totally confused here. Stay so busy I've been scanning through all this great...

Waaaaaaaaaaa, I liked what Beekissed had to say better, LOL!!! So......ChocolateMouse, your saying I can get more females in a hatch by changing temps that will kill off the males? Reading all this quickly so hope I didn't misunderstand and making a fool of myself.

OH MY GOODNESS! wonder if this is true for all birds. I hatch Peafowl (baby peacocks) and always get more males. It would be best to get more females. I wonder if I have the guts to turn my temp down a little from 99.5. I have a GQF Sportsman Cabinet Incubator. Not sure how to do it...

Why are you afraid to use your styrofoam incubator. They hatch most eggs well. Get some chicken eggs and take the plunge. Follow directions and you'll do great. What kind is it?
