Awe Whistles is too cute, what a little love bug! Congrats on the new additions, sorry Rose turned out to be a drake although he sure is a beautiful bird!
I took my chicks on daily outings to get them used to being outside before moving them permanently. If he is that depressed I might try to keep him inside during the day and have him outside at night. Gradually start putting him out an hour earlier each day. That way its not so drastic.
@SampyArctica that sounds wonderful! 31 days isn't really very long either! Are you going to get ducklings or full grown ducks? If you get ducklings they can't be unsupervised with him for 6 months, and if you get ducks they usually aren't as friendly.
I have heard of drakes attacking ducklings and killing them, male or female. I wouldn't introduce them until they are a bit older and I agree with you trying to get one thats already an adult!
I also wouldn't ignore him, I feel like that is harsher to him than discipline... after all he hasn't done anything wrong yet and ducks are social creatures.
I would agree that its probably a muscle defeciency. He didn't get to move around much in his last home so his muscles are more than likely weak. Its the same thing as a coma patient, they need physical therapy after coming out of a coma because their muscles have weakened/lessened.
I just came across this blog and I love you for taking that duck. I only have ducks right now but was upset when I saw chicks freezing to death at an outdoor flea market... don't get me wrong, I don't mind animal sales there, but not when the animals are overcrowded, getting hurt, or freezing!
