Alright, I might have one more hatch still in April. I put 18 Lavender Ameraucana eggs into the incubator April 10th so they might hatch the 30th. I candled today and two or so looked possibly clear. A few others were not very easy to see into, especially the two that have a greenish tinge...
@Kassaundra I feel bad for you that you are going to lose so many. That sounds really hard. Before my hatch I was reading about assisted hatching and it was stressful simply reading about it. Bravo to you for saving as many as you have.
Alright, I finally got some pictures uploaded. These ones are of my first chick to hatch Tuesday night.
Zipping:
It's an itty-bitty wing!
Out she comes, complaining quite loudly:
Resting up a moment:
Off she goes to see what the big world has to offer her (with shell stuck to her...
It sounds like everyone has been busy. My chicks are here. I had one hatch the evening of day 20/Tues. as I mentioned before. When I got to my classroom on day 21/Wed., I found one more had hatched overnight. Another hatched as my students were arriving so about half of them were able to watch...
I have a chick! The one that had pipped the most this morning was zipping when I checked on it this evening while at the church/school for something else. My aunt, a friend, and I were able to watch it zip and then emerge from the shell. It was really neat! The little thing came out squawking...
The humidity was fine when I left yesterday afternoon, holding steady around 70%. Then it was under 50% when I got here this morning. I added water and now it is high. It seems hard to regulate it exactly. I don't hear many peeps either, but have the 2 with external pips.
@Joshua G Those are adorable chicks!
My incubator is in my classroom, and it was hard to leave my eggs today even though nothing is happening that I can see yet. I'm really excited to see what happens over the next few days.
I put my eggs into lock-down today. Yay! I'm so excited. Of the 12 that I originally put in the incubator, three were obviously not developing so I got rid of those. That's leaves 9. My students have achievement testing this week, so hopefully the hatching is not too distracting. :)
I'm in! :) This is my first attempt at hatching ever and I'm really excited and a bit scared. I set 12 of my own chickens' eggs. My roosters are both mixed color Orpingtons, one buff/blue and one buff/splash I think. For hens I have 6 SLW, 1 BR, and 1 mixed color Orpington (I think she's golden...
