get a bandaid and cut in 1/2 long wise, then put the sticky part on each leg leaving the nonsticky center in between the legs, it is a hobble type set up designed to force the chick to keep it's leg in the proper place and use it building muscle strength and memory. Every chick I've had to do...
My April crew is growing by leaps and bounds healthy and off heat, even little Rudy. They are in an inside brooder for now, but they went off heat at 2ish weeks, so nearly a week now. I let them out in the outside brooder during the day, and they all run and flap and fly and have a great...
I may try that b/c the reading I've done about the commercial raising of these (not much written on them on any level) said they (in the mass raised commercial setting) tend to skin infections and yeast infections of the skin. I do not see that as an issue in good husbandry conditions, but...
Not sterile, yes completely normal in every other way.
Yes s/he will need some modifications, this is my first ever one, so I will be learning as I go. Not much extra care in the summer, but for sure in the winter and for sure if female some modifications to the male or maybe isolation from...
No Rudy is not a product of GM, or of nn gone wrong. He has a completely natural made recessive gene that was found in New Hampshire chickens bank in the 1950's. He has a double hit of the ALL NATURAL gene.
Here is a pic of Rudy today, he has come so far, wish I had taken pics of how he looked at hatch and during his ICU stay to really show how far he has come.
As you can see by that crop, s/he has a healthy appetite! lol
I read the further posts before replying so know you are attempting to help this little one. I agree w/ giving it time, I had 6 this hatch in ICU (the incubator) for nearly 2 days after the main group were in the brooder, and several of those were ones I KNEW wouldn't survive, but w/ a little...
I finally have the internet fixed and can respond,
Those of you w/ questions about Rudy, the naked chick. He is not unwell or handicapped by genetics. His nakedness is from a known, natural genetic inheiritance. I have in my flock carriers of the Sc gene, it was first discovered over...
