I have to say I really like my Bresse. They are great layers of large eggs. Some of them white some of them lightly tinted. I got some leghorn hatching eggs and was really excited untill I saw them. My bresse eggs are so much better looking. I'm thinking of getting more from bresse farms...
I'm with HighlandChick. I would easily pay $10 to $20 per unsexed chick. I saw them being sold for $30 a chick somewhere. i might try to sell some of my extra chicks for $ 10 a chick at local tailgates. Love these birds.
My barnevelders came from GFF. I had a great looking roo too but a hawk got him. I am thinking af getting a few more because they are really nice but they are still expensive.
I also got mine through RBA directly from GFF. I won one of their auctions that was all bresse and I have 2 Roos that turned out to be isbars. I will post some picks of my guys later. I would love to see pics of your guys.
I heard they discontinued them also. I would love to know who ends up with their breeding stock. I had a whole bunch of them but lost most of them to a bear then some of them to a hawk. I have 5 blue Roos one black roo ( with red leakage) one blue pullet 2 splash pullets and 2 black pullets...
I really like mine too. I have now found that they are overly aggressive towards any other of my chickens. I can't wait to see how well they lay. I did notice a lot of mine have real dark legs not the blue the standard calls for. I also noticed I high ratio of boys. How is the leg color...
Mine are doing great. Congrats on the auction. That's how I got mine. I got a few more on the 6th along with sulmtalers and malines. They are all popular meat breeds so I decided to compare their growth rates. I thought the malines would be the fastest to put on weight but it is the bresse...
Here are my blue bress chicks. I have some more coming tomorrow in a rare chick special from them.
This one feathers are not one solid color
This one has more of a solid color
This one on the end is almost white, would that make it a splash?
Oh well. It was just a guess. When I guessed with mine I didn't really expect to get it right it was more wishful thinking. Sorry to hear about your cockerel. You'll have to let me know how they do as layers. I hear they are really good. I wonder if their egg is white or tinted.
I have 3 blue bresse chicks from GFF. I will post pics soon. One may be splash, I'm not sure. I guessed my 3 black bresse chicks correctly as 2 or 3 day old chicks. The boys comb was larger and his legs were larger. If I had to guess on the pics I would say the blue is a girl and splash is...
