the danger with feeding grass clippings is mostly confined to non-ruminants. after all, silage, haylage, and baleage is all fermented matter. it's the fermentation that's dangerous, particularly to horses. i really don't know whether it's okay to give to chickens. i probably wouldn't, just...

i like hay in the nest box, but i haven't really got a good reason why. it just feels right. also, the hen has a lovely time moving individual strands to get it just right.
i think if i had nest-poopers, i'd prefer sawdust, though.
