I grow sprouts for the winter treats for when it snows. This keeps them up on chlorophyll which is important for continued egg production during the winter when there are no hostas to decimate (much less grass and other tasty tidbits).

How many hens do you have and how old were they went they started giving you their egg gifts? Mine are over 4 weeks now and we saw last night that they have started growing combs! So cool. This whole process is fabulous!
So sad about your hen. Can I ask (as a newbie does): what is a prolapsed vent? My girls are only 4+ weeks and I was surprised yesterday to see the beginnings of combs!
