Yeah, me too, and couldn't find anything at all. Then I found a guy in Dallas that was selling 2 week old unsexed for $25 ea with a min of 8 and shipping was $40. No thanks. I told him too high and he came down on the price to $ 175 for 6. Again, no thanks. I noticed he was selling his 2...
I don't know about that. I just think it's where they come from. England, Spain, Asia? And there are so many mixes. The sussex was developed in Britain from the Dorking and others. That's why it has so much flavor.
I only hatched 1 of my coronation sussex out of 9 eggs. And 1 basque out of 6. But they came from Pa and I'm in La. Next time maybe better luck. I love both of these breeds because they are friendly and get along. Don't pet the roosters. They will turn mean on the Basque. I'm waaaay...
My instructions was to not turn the first 3-4 days then turn3 x manually or with the turner. On day 18 you turn the turner off and let sit for 5 days. That's 3 days until hatch and 2 days while they dry off. To do a dry hatch keep the humidity 35%-45% until lockdown adding water 1 T at a...
Yeah, I like the lower dry hatch. I just hatched out 11 super blue egg layers. Out of 14 and I thought that was a good ratio. Only trouble is now I have to turn these for another few days and I've got 18 more blue layers coming in a day or two. I was such a newbie that I opened the...
Hopefully on the 27th. I'm on day 14 right now. I'm worried about them because they came all the way from Pa and I'm in La. And I'm wretched at candling. I think I'll try again tonight.
Yeah, I ordered my from Pa and I'm in La. Wrong time of the year to order. that far. They are in the incubator. Hope some hatch.
There is a wonderful thread on the Basques here. Check it out.
Both actually. The Basques are supposed to do 4-5 a wk. Not sure about eggs on Lt Sussex I believe 180-200 yr
How about New Hampshires or Delawares. Can't go wrong on them. Grow fast. Get big.
I'm quite interested in this also. Maybe a Light Sussex. Taste wise it is delicious. (hear say) Another breed I'm interested in is the Basque. It is supposed to be like a beige looking delaware. Super friendly. Good in heat and cold. I have both types of eggs in the 'bator. We'll see...
