My pile is growing nicely but I think I will start another one the next time we mow... dont want it too hard to turn

My hubby got my push mower running so I could get the spots the rider cant reach.. added quite a bit of fresh grass to the top after I had already turned the pile will mix the other stuff in tonight before it gets dark.. still putting off a TON of heat :)

Mine is growing daily but still on the small side probably 3 ft across and maybe 2 ft high... I bought a pitchfork today and am ssoooo excited to use it in the morning lol.. such a geek

Took the tarp off this morning to mix my pile and it was letting off some awesome steam :)) mixed it added more chicken poo and dried leaves then recovered it ... getting rain today so hopefully the tarp will keep some of it out.

This is what I have at the moment.. Grass clippings, straw from duck bedding and chicken coop, pine shavings, duck and chicken poo, and carrot and cabbage discards..

ok I have a pretty good pile going already though it is in an early stage ... when should I stop adding more to it? is there a point where it is less helpful to the pile to add more greens?

When do you know you need to start a second pile?
