I'm back in business! After not having chickens for almost 3 years, I woke up this morning with 7 newly hatched chicks in my incubator. My wife, who gave me "the look" when I told her I had purchased eggs and put them in the incubator, is more excited than I am.

I've been saying that I wanted one good snow and then I'd be ready for spring. We got 4 inches in western Catawba county, I've made my snow cream, so this counts as a good one. After I enjoy this, spring can come any time!

My experience with BPRs was okay. We had a flock of equal numbers of Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, and Buff Orpingtons (all hatchery birds). Honestly, the Barred Rocks were my least favorite of the three. They were okay but they were skittish with us and a little aggressive with the other...

I say go for it! Having an incubator is interesting and you'll learn a lot. Plus it's fun!
