I forgot to mention that I use heating pads (on old cookie cooling racks with old towels and more cardboard scraps as insulation) as electric hens so I'm not concerned with fire risk from heat lamps, but if you are making a cardboard city, be very careful with your heating elements!

I typically use some ungodly combo of large dog crates and cardboard boxes with a sideways metal horse trough just for fun and old window screens as lids. As they grow and need more space, I cut holes in the cardboard boxes and duck tape more to the side. It ends up as a sprawling...
Just got back from the WS poultry show with my newest flock members! I got an olive egger and Easter egger from one lady, a cream legbar roo and a frizzled tolbunt polish from one gentleman, and 2 lavender/grey silkies and a smooth partridge sizzle from another lady. Quite the mix!
Matt, do you know what time everything starts? I would like to get there at the beginning so hopefully will have lots of chick choices, but I can't find a start time ANYWHERE online (or I'm looking in all the wrong places ). Thanks again for your willingness to share all your knowledge!
Oooo, I want to have chicks in a tub! I'm looking forward to the poultry show in Winston this weekend to get some chicks and check out all the awesome birds. Anyone else going?
What time do people start setting up for selling?
I assumed it was something like that. Either way, I hope you are back to 100% soon!
Thanks for the suggestion to contact doublea. She and Bhep are the two relatively close to me who have some breeds I am looking for. They are near the triangle whereas I am in the triad. Who came up with these...
Thanks! My best friend just told me I have too much time on my hands when I sent her that pic :P I told her chicken time and chicken math defy the laws of nature!!!
We had sunk sheets of metal flashing 12" underground around the coop, so that's been keeping things out. Every now and then I would see a little hole started until dink! they ran into the flashing and I would laugh and mutter "sucker!" under my breath. Well, apparently he was pretty persistent...
Lol, all I could think was "maybe don't put it there then!" but I'm not sure how that comes across NOT in person :P Like I said, I'm in healthcare... there's no such thing as TMI. Or maybe I should rephrase that to... I get paid to hear TMI!
He/she was actually really cute and just kinda stayed in the corner with his nose tucked under his tail while I straightened up the coop... moving slowly and talking to him. You know, 'cause telling a skunk "Hey buddy, it's going to be alright. I'm not gonna hurt you but I'm going to have to ask...
I know this may sound a little hokey, but I swear by the vitamin C packets like Emergen-C to prevent or reduce a cold. The CVS or store brand is just as good. I'm in healthcare and prefer to not take meds as much as possible, but I think these work well. Obviously, if you have any health...
So cute! Just out of curiosity, could you graft the chicks from your brooder to mama hen and let her raise them? Would there be any reason to not do that?
I'm planning to go to that and to the Winston Salem show 28 March. Matt (I think) said the Winston show is bigger with more sellers. We'll have to meet up!
Hi Buckbeak,
There is apossibility that I may be selling a few partridge rock and australorp girls who are laying (about 9 months old) but I'm not sure yet. There is a poultry show in Winston on the 28th this month, you might be able to get some there. I'm planning on going so it would be nice...
