The coop was a very different place this morning. after removing my cockerel from the flock, the stress levels are way down... the ladies seem a lot happier now.
i miss him crowing though
Well.. I had to cull my first bird today... My cockerel I was trying to re-home went after my son last night.... Any bird that shows that much aggression has to go.
It went smoothly, I made a thread on it, you can check it out here...
Hey tbird, if you want a nice young EE cockerel, let me know, I am wanting to re-home mine. he is 7 months old (hatched May 22)
We are planning on getting more Delawares, and I want to raise them.
Spazz is a good little cockerel. he is a bit protective of the girls, but has never tried to peck...
Good point Batcave.
I wasn't planning on buying from there, but I have a nice little EE cockerel that I need to get rid of. He is a good little guy, I hate to cull him ( I have grown attached to him) but I am wanting to raise Delawares instead of EE's. I can't find anyone around here that wants...

I put a 75w heat lamp ( a red one) just above the waterer that I keep in the coop. That helped a lot. The outside water still freezes, but at least I don't have to carry in 2 waterers to melt/refill them. I shut off the well so it wouldn't freeze, so I have to go inside to refill their water...

We have about 5" of snow in little Washington, and it's still coming down really hard!
My ladies won't even go out in the run, they are staying inside where its a bit warmer.
I have a 75w heat lamp over their water dish so it doesn't freeze, that warms up the coop pretty well
and saves me...
