Welcome, from across the river to the west! I'm in Davie County just on the other side of Winston. Can I make the assumption based on your username that y'all are at Bowman Gray? I am also a relative newbie, got my first girls in September at right about the age you have now. They are just...
Hope everybody is able to stay warm Moomoodiddy, hope your calf and mommy is doing well. I am running water out every couple of hours to my small flock and checking for eggs. (none yet stinking freeloaders, don't they know they are supposed to lay right at 24 weeks ) That said one of my EE's has...
My girls are getting bored, I need to put some stuff out for them. I did make a hanging scratch toy out of a small water bottle with holes in it. They were terrified. Would not go near it, so I had to take it out. Maybe I need to put it in and let them roll it on the ground.
Yeah I hate the humidity as well. I am ready for some cold, but need the sunshine. I am sick sick sick of rain. This was Katie's first trip to Myrtle, we have visited my Brother on Emerald isle, but it has been several years as there have been a lot of medical issues with his wife, so she hasn't...
Hey everybody! Hope you all had a good long weekend We took a few days and went to Myrtle beach. Perfect weather, could not believe that Katie was swimming in the ocean christmas day! Home back to icky rain. I want more sunshine!!! Still on the first egg wait on the chicken front. I was so...
Are they coops with open runs, or all coop? Pictures may help. The general rule is 4 sq ft per chicken in the hen house/coop and 10 sq ft per chicken in the run.
Welcome! Tell us about yourself, Do you have chickens yet? I started on here before I had hens now have 8 pullets and waiting on the first egg. We also love to see photos of coops and chickens and basically what ever you want
Not much to update here, we got the girls settled in the coop just in time for the rain, so I haven't had much time to enjoy them. We still have some tweaking to do on the coop, but it is stuff that we can piddle along on for a while. They are very secure and safe that is the main thing. I wish...
Wow, Everybody's awful quiet good morning! Hope everyone is doing fine, and just busy. We are settled in for rain for a few days so thought I would pop on here and see how everyone is.
Well at least scottcaddy, they have moved on from my garage, to a shantytown in the driveway lol. Oh and decided to just zip tie blue tarps up for windbreaks, so it looks reeeeeeal nice lol
you ain't kidding! I didn't have a wind break plan yet, and of course today is cold and windy, so I have put plywood, trash cans whatever I can find to block the wind. thinking of getting shower curtain liners and zip tying it to the sides to have a temporary break for them. Still lots to do!
Welcome to Rainbow's Roost! Hubby finally got the coop close enough to done that we could put the girls in there last night. We had planned on finishing last weekend but had to attend a funeral instead. Of course this weekend is the coldest we have had yet. He has a lot he still wants to do, but...
I don't think they would punish the roo because you eat meat lol, It would just reinforce that they "rescued" him. I know I was attacked by a rooster when I was an adult and it terrified me. One of the reasons I don't want to deal with one lol. What about getting a small tractor just for him...
