Hi, NC peeps. Missing being around people who think like I do. NC, born and raised, moved to ND not quite 3 months ago. For the most part people are nice but the chicken folk on here don't chat much. I am at my whits end right now. We bought a place up here and were told our flock was welcome...

Has anyone ever sent a fowl in for necropsy? If so where/who did you use and can you remember the cost associated with it? We have lost 2 ducks in a month and a half. Both were approx 3 years old. The first one was showed no signs of illness. One morning I let everyone out and she didn't come...

Anyone know of anyone in Cumberland County with Call ducks? I got one at the Cedar Creek flock swap September and would love to get another Call hen as her companion. I know, I should have gotten 2 but I was trying to be good and not increase the flock size sooo much, but since then I have...

horns? If you mean spur buds then yes. My female GL polish has them, pretty large too. She is a little over a year and started developing them early. My newest SL does not. I did a bit of research and found that some females can develop buds. Have no clue if they will ever get any bigger, hope...

Finally the sun is shining and the temp feels great! DH and I finally got the coops halfway cleaned out...got the duck mess out. Still leery about taking all the straw out since the weather can't decide if it wants to be warm or freezing. Be glad when spring officially gets here so I can do a...

You need a mini cow! I want one but DH says no way, absolutely not. We don't have enough room but one day..... I have done some research on them anyways. A mini cow gives an average of a gallon of milk a day. Plenty to drink and make cheese for the family. Not to mention they are super adorable.

I don't know about cross breed "contamination" but we have always quarantined any new members, duck or chicken, baby or adult. We have been lucky in that none of the ones we introduced have been ill. We keep them separate either in crates in the house or crated in our shop, not really giving...

Na, it's all over, wing, chest, back. An actual molt. She is not trying to line a nest, she actually will not stay on a nest. She is happy to hunker down on the floor and have them under her where ever she feels like sitting. Good luck with the broodies. That's a lot of grumpy attitude in one yard.

Hey folks. Hope everyone enjoyed their snow days, I know I did - critters not so much. Our broody successfully hatched 2 chicks (the others did not develop) and has been inside since she started sitting (and will stay till the babies can go out-warmer weather). Chicks are happy and healthy for...

Quick question friends. Our silkie is busily brooding on at least 1 fertile egg. I candled and saw veining, have not been able to see it in the brown egg. Will try again tonight. She is inside in a crate to stay warm. So the question is...Is it normal for her to eat so little? She only comes out...
