Anyone have Call Duck hatching eggs this late in the season? My kids were smitten by them at the State Fair...

I contacted them about their Ameraucanas last year. Long story short: they do not have standard Ameraucanas, they have Easter Eggers. This would make me skeptical of the quality of the rest of their breeds as well. However, if you're just looking for an assortment of laying hens, they seem like...

Those that are NPIP: How long does it typically take to get your results? I've got my appointment on the 1st and I'm planning to hatch chicks on the 10th. It would be nice to sell them as NPIP certified...

Speaking of single chicks... My broody is sitting on ONE fertile Ameraucana egg right now (apparently my Silkie cockerel hasn't figured out his job yet in my bantam pen). Has anyone had success with a mama raising only one chick? My friend said that her broody with one chick killed it, and now I...

Yes, if you let it sit in the empty bed then till/work it in in the spring, it'll be perfect. :) If anyone ever has gardening questions, feel free to PM me. I actually teach gardening classes as a part time job to adults and children. :)

Chicken manure (or any manure) is considered "hot" with nitrogen when it is first produced. With larger livestock, you have to let it sit for a year or more before using it. For chickens, however, a few months usually suffices. You have a few options: 1) put it in your compost or in a heap for a...

So, it sounds like there's not really a consensus on the pronunciation of NPIP! Personally, I prefer two syllables over four, so I'll probably stick with n-pip... ;)

So, I have a weird question... I'm planning on getting NPIP certified soon, but was wondering... How do you actually *say* NPIP? I've been saying "en-pip", is that right? Or does everyone actually say each letter: "en-pee-eye-pee"? I warned you about it being a weird question.... ;)

    I'm in Hillsborough too! :)

I hope they hatch well! My broody I told you about already had two hatch today, even though I had hatch date pegged at Wed/Thur... :)

My seventh hatch ever yielded my first 100% hatch rate! Eight out of eight lavender/split Ameraucana hatched (from my own flock). :) With my previous hatches ranging from 20% to 83%, I'm super happy about this one!

Guess I should've warned people that I don't have rainbow hair anymore... I'm not that easy to spot in a crowd. :) Next time we will have to have some kind of BYC shirt or something that someone else mentioned. My son was playing with some other kids outside, I wouldn't be surprised if they were...

Had fun at the Greensboro show today. Caught up with some fellow Ameraucana Breeders Club members, and my son had his eyes opened to several new kinds of chickens. He had never seen a sebright before. Those were some of his faves. Notice how he's wearing the shirt from the 5k we ran this...

I would realistically get there around 1:00. Optimistically around noon... ;) We will see...

I was thinking about it, but I'm running a 5k that morning with my son, and I'm not sure I'll have time to shower and drive the hour out there in time for it to be worth being there..... Now, if someone was going to be bringing Golden Cuckoo Maran chicks or eggs, I might be convinced to go. :)

Easter chicks! I switched from a heat lamp to a heating pad for this hatch and the chicks are loving it! I had thought of getting a heat plate, but a pad is much cheaper and the chicks love the little tunnels it makes! :)

Ooh, that sounds like a great assortment! Wish I could've gone, but with hubby out of town and my four kids having an Easter activity at church, it just didn't work out.... :( Still hoping I can squeeze in the Greensboro show, either before or after the 5k my son and I are doing at 10:00 that...

I was afraid someone would say something along these lines... We are actually attached to him, we've had him since birth. We've already had to rehome his mom (a husky) because she was having behavioral issues and causing severe stress to our malamute (weight gain, hair loss, etc). That was hard...

Wow... Nothing gets your heart rate up like trying to catch a loose chicken for a half hour! Especially when you're competing with an untrained husky.... :th As a side note: any tips on training a husky? I've got a shock training collar, but misplaced the charger for it. Should I just keep him...
