Swollen Head Syndrome? Is it contagious?

So sorry to hear about Frankenstein's death. It sounds as though you really tried to let him live a normal life, and knew when it was going downhill. This was an unusual case, and educational for many of us to know that swollen faces don't always signal a respiratory disease. Take care.

Thanks for the update. At least it doesn't seem to be affecting him in a bad way, but too bad it didn't get better.

Swollen Head Syndrome? Is it contagious?

Sounds like a nice vet. I'm glad you got the medicine, and I hope it clears up the swelling fast. One or two of my roosters with a large straight comb have had some darkened tips especially toward the back their combs on occasion. When it regains color it shouldn't be a problem.

Gosh that is some major swelling of his face. Did you see any sting marks in the swollen area when it first showed up? You can develop cellulitis from an insect bite, as I recently found out myself, which can require some heavy antibiotics. The blue tips of the comb doesn't look good. Vets...

Swollen Head Syndrome? Is it contagious?

Yes, wild birds can carry most of the common respiratory diseases including MG. With a milder case of MG it is possible to just have some swelling around one eye and nothing else. Your picture will be good. Someone else recently had a similar growth that looked like a small horn coming out of...

Swollen Head Syndrome? Is it contagious?

Swollen head syndrome is rare, more in meat birds, and the swelling is over the whole head. You are probably dealing with MG, which can be treated with Tylan 50 injections or oxytetracycline in the water. Tylan 50 can be given orally also--dosage is 1 ml for over 5 lb orally for 5 days, or...
