Sorry, Gruber... keep looking. When is your breeding season for peas down there.
Did you laugh at my post that I found some HERE? (In December... who'd believe it... I'm up to three. No idea if they will develop...)
Yes, that's pretty close to what I observed. I think it is held annually, approximately the last weekend in September... at least that has been the pattern as long as I have been around, which isn't that long in pea-years
I'm not sure there IS a schedule... My impression has been that the board gets together and whoever doesn't move quickly enough gets tagged as "IT"
Seriously, though, I'm perplexed at what has happened with the UPA. The web forum is moribund, and when I visit the public part of the...
And you are one of the nearest breeders to me (gee, that says something about how spread out we are, doesn't it?), so the LAST thing I want to do is send you out of the country
Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! If I come up with a ticket -- one way OR round trip, I'll send you a post card from those sunny beaches that Gruber was talking about
How about we have our first BYC peafowl convention someplace fun?
I was just wondering... one of my bators (the h3llbator) actually said, don't hatch goose eggs with a turner... well it actually said, "not recommended," which basically meant, if you want hatched eggs don't use it, cause you will have cooked eggs if you do...
oopsies. (I've actually found several ways to foul up the editor, there should be an award...)
Ok, so does this mean you aren't going to Australia to help him out?
Hey @KsKingBee maybe you could go down there and help him get it set up?
Actually, I've wondering about the turner... I couldn't use one in my h3llbator because it put the eggs too close to the heating element. I haven't tried one in the new bator. My concern would be if it puts the eggs...
I'm pretty ridiculously picky about stupid stuff, but I would make sure they were cushioned with towels on the trip and that I tried to maintain whatever temperature they were at when you picked them up ... unless they are chilled, in which case you could let them start warming up. I would make...
Make sure you sterilize your incubator and give it plenty of time to air out before you put new eggs in it! You don't want bad bacteria from this batch to transfer to the new ones and kill them. I assume you are always washing your hands before you touch the eggs, and that you know not to have...
So sorry, just now saw these photos, and I'm on my cell, so can't see them as well as on monitor. At this stage, at the point of hatching, they should all look more like the first photo, with the inside almost completely dark, at least until much farther in hatching process when the membrane is...
Don't feel bad, my ex passed out in the delivery room with our second.
Have I ever posted my photo of my pea on the half-shell?
He grew up to be a big strong pea
Well, I have to agree with you both... I do tend to peek in quite a bit more often than is generally advised. But I have to say that particularly with my original H3llbator, and our dry conditions, I not only lost moisture, but also temperature, and the darned thing would "notice" that it was...
Gruber, do you have any eggs which seem viable? I'm so sorry you are having a difficult time with them.
It sounds like some of them may have died part way through incubation. I don't think the temperature being off that little bit would necessarily do that, though next time, you might set it a...
He is 18 hours ahead of me, and 16 hours ahead of you so it is now 3 am on Monday where he lives. The latest candling results didn't sound promising but I can't tell if he thought some might still be viable
Meanwhile, you might want to candle the eggs one at a time (keep the bator closed with the rest of them) and check for signs of hatching, like noises, cracks or pips, etc. I sometimes hold an egg to my ear to listen for a few moments But be careful not to let them get chilled.
