The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Been down sick all weekend so I missed all the fun (and 2400 posts!)...but my broody hatched 5 out of 7 eggs. Congrats on all the good hatches; sorry about the bad ones. Hope everyone had a great Easter.

I just moved my brooder from DH garage into my office in the house...we'll see how long that lasts. Absolutely! Though it's pretty funny to watch and not all LF ladies will allow it.

Bantams only count as 1/2, tops. Broody hens and chicks don't count either. And don't forget to subtract 10% for future loss due to predators, etc.

The Basque are beautiful! ...and I may need to add some OE to the order when I get my Pita Pintas. Gotta love the broody! I ran a super small medical feeding tube thru one of the small vent holes and taped the end into the water well. Then when I need to add water I don't have to open the...

Just in case :) And ask LOTS of questions. We all love to enable, er, I mean help! Awesome! She's a keeper! I had never heard of Crevecoeur before; I had to look them up. Very cool! Oh no! That sucks. Check out the Hatching 101 article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101...

WHoooHooo! Looks like I can join the HAL (if I'm not to late) - I've got a Broody! Of course DH is going to flip cause I'm already running my incubator plus a borrowed one, both full of my Christmas pre-order. Now off to catch up on the last 300+ posts...

Adorable! Congrats! Papa's has some beautiful birds! Ohhhhh! Pretty! (I would be in SO much trouble if I had one!) Yea! I like my Eco 20. I ordered the auto-turner with it and once it's set it is rock steady. It depends on how many eggs you want to hatch (7 just wasn't enough for me) and...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

All I have to do is get it into the office before he sees it ...once it's there he'll never know untill the chicks start popping My only dilema at this point is I'm not sure I want to test a new hatcher on the expensive English Orpington eggs I have coming on March 5. Maybe I should set the...

Great idea!!! Awesome! That's what I'm thinking of getting. Is it still air or circulated? Any quirks that you've noticed?

Can a cheap sytrofoam bator be used successfully as a hatcher? Any other suggestions for cheap hatchers? Anything specific that is more inportant in a hatcher rather then the incubator? I know I need good airflow and don't need to worry about turners; anything else? I've finally feel comfortable...

It's a gamble; I've hatched grocery store (Trader Joes) eggs twice. 1st try was 1 out of 10, eggs were 8 days old. The 2nd time I hatched 11 out of 12 and the eggs were 5 days old. Both times were out of the fridge section in the store.- check out the Trader Joes thread...
