The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I get blu kote at the farm and fleet or the feed store. You might be able to get it at tractor supply as well. It has saved many a chicken from being pecked after minor injury or breaking of a feather shaft (particularly a problem with my feather footed breeds)

I would spray that wound with blue coat to prevent any picking if you aren't going to keep him isolated. The red will attract picking by flockmates. I would wait until fully healed to try to return that bird to the flock.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

DH is late getting home from work - so the incubator may have found itself totally full again after last weekend's disaster caused it to sit empty maintaining temperature for the last 5 days. Now I really gotta sell a slew of chicks on Sunday or when our re-ship from Welp arrives next week...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

What's worse is I really need day olds (or a couple days old) for the weekend's photo session so I'll be back at the farm and garden to buy more chicks I don't "need" cause they are getting a shipment Friday morning. On top of the ones I pick up Friday and the some odd 35 chicks I already have...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

not sure if the kids have been given a thorough scolding (found the problem after they had long gone home), but their parents were alerted and have been very apologetic. They offered to pay us for the loss (these chicks were to be sold after the weekend's planned events centered around them).

for certain. the 5 year old confessed. and the DH has become a total enabler. he took me to the farm and garden and more than encouraged me to buy 15 chicks we don't even need :)

I am reloading later this week. There will be fewer project eggs, but I have 6 so far plus a bunch of bantam ee's. I went to the local farm and garden and had some poultry retail therapy. 15 day old polish (silver laced and white crested black).

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I'm out. A friend of DH was over with his kids this weekend and they were not adequately supervised (I was not home) and one of them turned up the incubator to 120 and cooked everything inside. I am super bummed because there were 13 project eggs in there that it took me 2 weeks to collect.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I moved a batch to lockdown, candles my day 10 eggs and filled any open slots in the turner for this HAL. 31 set today. 13 are mille d'Uccle or crosses of them and 18 are bantam ee type crosses Ameraucana/Araucana cross too carrying blue egg gene over hens of the same cross and bantam mix hens...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I'm ecstatic - I think I have a natural randomly occurring frizzle mille d'Uccle from my most recent hatch! 5 days and the tips of the feathers still appear to be curling out. They aren't as curly as some of the other mixed breed frizzles I have had in the past, but those weren't naturally...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Yay. I am in. I have managed to sell most of what I hatched this month (50 hatched, 33 sold as of tomorrow) and it only gets better a spring arrives for real. Think I will be mostly done with d'Uccles by this HAL, but I might hatch EEs for fun.
